A) I didn’t come out sideways at a stranger on the internet.
B) I absolutely admitted genuine innocent ignorance. You then doubled down on “Amerikkans suck lol” so, uh, no.
Troll less, love more, and leave me the fuck alone.

My reply prior to this one did admit it. Get off your high horse you arrogant fuck.
You know what’s way better than berating ignorance?
Educating it. Especially when it was genuinely innocent instead of willfully malicious.
Assuming I’m an idiot because of where I’m from makes you no better than the majority of those in my country you so clearly spurn. Be better than a typical American, yeah?
Touché, but I was going for the most overtly despotic nation I am aware of, and I don’t think its unfair to call that regime despotic.
At the height of the Colin Kaepernick nonsense, my cousin got married to a cop.
So the reception is going normally when everyone is asked to stand and they started playing the National fucking Anthem. Literally everyone was surprised and taken aback by this, but most complied and faced the flag.
My Very Conservative Uncle, however, was busy having a conversation with me. Next to my chair. On one knee. During the anthem.
To his credit, nobody laughed harder about it than he did. “Of course I’m the guy taking a knee during the anthem!” He also was blocking me in and gave me the perfect excuse to do what I’d planned to anyway and remain seated because what the fuck? Are we in North Korea and need to tribute Glorious Leader at every event?
That was probably one of the last family functions I’ve been to, come to think of it.

Then why suggest that?

I am decidedly on the spectrum and very much prefer things to be clear-cur with precisely defined lines.
You can be a healthy individual with solid beliefs and that is precisely why you can’t in good conscience walk away from your family who might be struggling but always means well in their heart of hearts. Not bad people, just misguided. And on top of that, they’re your only support network. You may disagree on everything except that you genuinely love one another and would never wish or bring harm upon one another.
A healthy person would absolutely struggle with leaving that social circle. And this isn’t really that far-fetched a scenario as most people really aren’t that adamant and vitriolic in their beliefs as any given extreme would have you believe.
So are you wrong? Not in every case, for sure. But you’re also not really correct either. Human interactions are mostly nuance, which your assessment is entirely devoid of.

To be perfectly clear, the only AI I am subscribed to is the one Proton gives with their family plan VPN bundle, and I didn’t choose it. I used it to edit a letter I wrote once and otherwise trust it as far as I can throw its server.
This knee-jerk reaction to anything with the letters AI attached being bad is just so silly. Y’all are acting the way Republicans act when it comes to the word “queer.” Just because it’s in the vicinity of you doesn’t mean you’re contaminated, you’ve caught it, you’re now one of them.
This is a highly intelligent individual - controversial hot takes notwithstanding - utilizing a tool in a way that has proven itself to be very effective when used properly. Nobody is saying you have to get ready to be a switch in the bedroom any more than they’re saying you have to use AI.
Distro maintenance is a difficult and thankless task, and having a tool that can scan and analyze code orders of magnitude faster than you as well as make suggestions on how to fix it isn’t an inherently bad thing. Setting that tool loose with unlimited agency would be a bad thing, but where oh where is Linus saying he’s gonna give Claude full read/write access to the entire kernel and walk away forevermore?
Hate on AI bros all you want. I’m with you there, most of them are idiots that don’t know their mouth from their anus and speak from both equally. I don’t think Linus fits that particular picture [hot takes notwithstanding!] when it comes to using the new tool on the market in a reasonable and measured way.

Same, brother.

So it was definitely an act for many years, but shortly after the time he did his big cyberpunk video I feel like his character shifted. As I examine the timeline now, that’s around the time he got engaged/married so I can appreciate his priorities shifting. That’s not it, though.
What sold me on him being a bit out of touch now was the recent debacle with YouTube changing how views were counted and him being flippant about the whole thing. JoshStrifeHayes actually did a direct video response to that claim which, IMO, expertly dismantled Spiff and demonstrated why not only was he wrong, but also sitt8ng atop a high horse because he is the Spiffing Brit and losing 10k viewers means little to him. He does it on a Tuesday as an experiment, so his hot take of “people go outside bruh” doesn’t work for people who only have 7k followers.
After that, the changes I perceived in his character clicked into place for me; he’s become elitist and has lost touch with regular working class folks. That’s fine and I’m happy he’s made it like that, but I don’t need to support him any longer. And he’s not at all hurting from my lack of views.

Sjin for touching kids.
The rest of the Yogscast for just generally being shitty people once they hit the six figure earning mark doing things like promising a game and then running away with the crowdfunding.
TotalBiscuit died.
TheSpiffingBrit went from faux elitism to actual elitism and I just don’t find him funny anymore.

He says on his favorite thinking machine.
Read further before responding next time and don’t “you people” me when you’ve got no idea what bucket I fit in.
Oh I agree. I jumped off Windows the day I got my laptop and saw what a horror show windows 11 is and am outright refusing to update my android until I can unlock my bootloader and entirely degoogle.
I also don’t use any of the big LLMs because I see no point and don’t have a job that requires I do so. I personally believe AI is a net-negative for humanity in general.
One could also argue the very same for alcohol, gunpowder, firearms, etc. The only recourse left is to argue ethical use, not cry about not wanting it in the world anymore.
Besides, what does using AI to debug the kernel and optimize it for people who have reason to run local LLMs have to do with you and me? I’m all for sticking it to The Man when he does some Seriously Dumb Shit, but this whole situation qualifies for neither.
Arguing over use of a tool is foolish.
Arguing over correct use of a tool absolutely has merit.
AI as an industry has extremely debatable morality, however you kinda can’t put this genie back in the bottle.
Like him or don’t, his ultimate message of “This shit is here so you may as well learn how to embrace it” isn’t inherently bad either in context of bug-hunting and skilled individuals using the tools as an aid rather than as the alpha and omega solution.
How is this controversial besides coming from the guy who said it?

Part of why it worked for the Russians though, is because for every ten soldiers they only had one gun. Kill four soldiers, you’ve still got the same number of guns pointed at you. Now multiply it by a hundred or a thousand and see how, while not exactly sustainable, it ends up working as it did in the right circumstances. Like, I dunno, brutal winters with nowhere to retreat to and an enemy struggling with the reality of logistics in the same conditions

Totally tubular!

Not without additional calisthenics, but if you do a combo of walking/running, martial arts, and calisthenics then yeah, actually, it can. It requires serious dedication, but it is possible if unlikely.

Try Tai Chi.
Low impact, not competitive, and not only gets you in shape, but teaches you self defense at the same time without you even realizing it.
Give me actual information instead of anger and I am more than happy to engage in discourse. Everyone is anonymous here. My country of birth doesn’t define who I am any more than yours does you.
