  • interesting. I wonder if this is why internet subcultures like reddit, facebook, twitter, lemmy, etc didn’t start out as toxic but became or are becoming toxic communities that provides incentives to act on psychopathic ideologies.

user engagement is important on any social platform, but who benefits the most is debatable. this is why trolls are so successful. they directly benefit from interactions and gain a sense of superiority by controlling the narrative.

on the other side, bot accounts use trolling techniques to strengthen or weaken social opinion on a grand scale based on what has been requested. The use of AI only improves the efficacy of the end result.

I wonder if the internet today would be more similar to what the internet was like before social media was a thing if “bots” never existed.

  • funny I just mentioned this in another thread.

I wrote a letter to my wife telling her all the things I would say if I were dying or dead. this way, should I be dying, we can just be emotionally intimate together for our final moments together.

sometimes words aren’t enough to express how we feel. Actions, no matter how small or quiet, speak loud volumes that can fill a lifetime of peace or regret. In my final moments I want to give my wife and our family the peace they deserve. After all, the living suffer needlessly after death.

  • They can’t read your mind. A professional painter is going to make the exact image they want in far less time and with more accuracy than repeatedly prompting a black box to make small changes.

and this is the exact reason why I hate IDEs that relentlessly “do things” for me.

I don’t need my editor maintaining my includes or updating my lock files. I don’t need them to auto complete words or fix syntax for me.

I know exactly what I’m doing. If I don’t then-- AND ONLY THEN, will I lookup what I need and fix it myself.

if there’s a problem with formatting a linter will pick it up. if there’s a problem with syntax the runtime/compilation will pick it up. if there’s a problem with content uat will pick it up.

we don’t need to be MORE productive, we need to be more skilled and using tools like these only soften the mind and dull the spirit.
