I remember the sudden groupthink, and the shift in villains. The bad guy was no longer a nondescript eastern European guy, the bad guy now wore a turban.

Some guy made a UI for Lemmy, called tesseract. Then he hid secret blacklists within that UI which automatically blocked a bunch of leftist and trans content, as well as some generic spam stuff. Someone noticed that a trans community was blocked when accessed through tesseract, and so they did some digging and published the blocklists.

Guy that made tesseract calmly and reasonably wrote a rambling “farewell” letter where he basically said we’re all insane and he’s done trying to make Lemmy a “better” place, and included ddos code within the farewell letter targeting the instance that first identified the blacklists.

Now they’ve spent the last 2-3 days arguing how great the tesseract blacklist was under various alt accounts.

I think the assumption was that the shortened window to list it in the NASDAQ 100 in 15 days meant that it would be bouyed by 401k money. I don’t think early investors planned to be able to pump and dump so effectively that US retirement savings as a whole weren’t enough to keep it up.

Pointlessly pretentious. Powered through the whole thing because it’s supposed to be good and. It’s not.

Its like having a conversation with an idiot that think using exclusively polysyllabic words makes them smart.

Also the part where all the highschool girls end up in relationships with 30+ year old men is certainly something.

Those headlights are just improperly adjusted. Normal headlights point down, especislly on the driver side. Brights are often bright because they point forward.

Now, if you replace your headlight, for example, or decide to lift your truck, and don’t adjust your headlights…well now you’ve just got your brights on all day long.

Buy a Sceptre! I got one two years ago, as well as a monitor, and they’re both great and dumb. Although I don’t watch TV all that often.

Idk if anything has changed in 2 years. I paid like 600 for a 65 inch and maybe 80-100 for a gaming monitor? Both were purchased with the intention to get ahead of tariffs on electronics

First, we need to have the systems in place to identify those people. Second, we need to have the manpower to provide those people with one on one socialization.

Kind of an odd phrase, given that money as a concept is fundamentally both of those things at all times.

There was a semi-famous (edit: and possibly fake, upon further digging) artistic suicide where some dude used various lengths of rope and piano wire to dismember themselves after jumping off a bridge, so you had arms and legs and such hanging at various heights, with just a torso and head hanging by the neck at the bottom.

There is also a very well-known phenomenon (at least in the art world) where the value of an artists work will increase exponentially as soon as they die. Interestingly, the value of their work increases more if they die by suicide than if they die by other causes.

One could argue that protest suicides, like those monks that set themselves on fire, are arguably an art piece.

I think some of the issue is that the ‘piece’ may be easily misunderstood. For example, I think it’s mostly wrong to involve another person in your suicide…but if someone walks into a gun store, buys a shotgun, and then shoot themselves in front of the clerk…well, the gun store clerk sells guns. Tools that are meant to make living things not live anymore. Like. You should be aware of that if you work at a gun store. Witnessing the cessation of life is a normal job hazard in that line of work.

So I don’t really have an unused side/old computer that is operational. I’m an engineer, but not the computer kind.

Might try the boot USB route. I wanted to do a virtual box so I could easily test to see if my current games/programs work

I legitimately tried to switch to Linux a few days ago. Got virtual ox running, got one of the recommended noob distros (cinnamon?) and then got an error message that I cannot make sense of during install. Even googling it didn’t help

I’m not a computer guy, and I’m legitimately concerned that if I ask for help on the Linux forums I’ll be the punching bag of the week.
