The things he’s complaining about all seem like good features for a group with voluntary membership. Its only when membership is compulsory that those kinds of things become bad.

Fediverse@lemmy.ml•FR#150 – On ICE, Verification, and Presence As HarmEnglish
1·15 days agoIt is somewhat unclear how the presence of a fascist police force that is actively working to instigate civil war aligns with the principles of safety and respect that Bluesky supposedly champions.

Linux@lemmy.ml•NTFSPlus Becomes "NTFS" as Driver Moves Closer to Kernel IntegrationEnglish
5·1 month agoNah, the same thing was fine under windows. The old linux ntfs driver was just horribly inefficient and 100%'ed the cpu for too long. The hardware worked as intended - it shut down to avoid thermal damage. Possibly there was some lower “speedstep” the OS could have told the CPU to use, but that didn’t seem to happen on this combination of OS and hardware.

38·1 month agoMy experience of using NTFS on Linux was downloading a torrent on a dual boot laptop and it shutting down due to overheating. This was more than a decade ago, so hopefully it’s a lot better by now.
Javascript is shit because it was never intended to be a serious language, but it’s (realistically) the only language in browsers so it’s everywhere. So there’s necessarily a LOT of tooling to make it suck less. The current generation of tooling is starting to get kinda good, like Bun, Deno, Vite, Biome etc, but it’s still a mess of competing standards, where other languages give you standards and simplicity for free.

14·2 months agoAt my Lidl they put the cheap pink salmon cans on the same shelf intermixed with the more expensive red salmon, so if you just grab a few without looking closely you’ll accidentally get some of the expensive ones. So scan the cheap one repeatedly while putting the others in the bag.
