Ludwig is just testing the waters. Germany has Jens Spahn who is standing back and waiting for the right moment to do a party internal coup like Kurz did.

poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What external services do you use for your selfhosting setup?English45·3 days agoAn external email host. Life is too short to deal with frustrating email issues.
Well, not a bad idea in general, but the problem identification is kinda wrong.
Fediverse instances usually don’t shut down because of a lack of funds / donations, and for those that do, the core issue isn’t the donation side, but rather the expense side with over-engineered and overly expensive cloud services usually at fault.
More commonly Fediverse instances shut down because the original creator lost interest or feels overwhelmed with the day to day reality of managing a community, as opposed to just doing the technical work to keep it running.

Odoo itself is a bit of a pain to update across major versions and the (very nice) OCA plugins need to be managend manually. So both factors together make hosting it a bit annoying.
I don’t see a huge difference in hosting from home or a VPS, but of course a managed solution is going to be more hassle free.
I think the most important point will be to talk to your business partner about it, and probably to have a backup plan for paper based ordering in place. The latter is good practice anyway, as recent power outages in Spain and Portugal have shown.

If they had a good end point for the heat, they wouldn’t have to use the atmosphere for it in the first place.
Small 2.5" HDDs are quite power efficient, but yes 500mb is kind of the limit where I also start questioning it it is worth to run them.
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why are anime catgirls blocking my access to the Linux kernel?English5·8 days agoAnubis is not bad for privacy, but rather the opposite. Server admins explicitly chose it over commonly available alternatives to preserve the privacy of their visitors.
If you don’t like random Javascript execution, just install an allow-list extension in your browser 🤷
And no, it is not a PR slogan, it is the live experience of thousands of server admins (me included) that have been fighting with this for month now and are very grateful that Anubis has provided some (likely only temporary) relief from that.
And I don’t get what the point of an extra button would be when the result is exactly the same 🤷
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why are anime catgirls blocking my access to the Linux kernel?English14·8 days agoAre you seriously complaining about an (entirely false) negative privacy aspect of Anubis and then suggest reCaptcha from Google is better?
Look, no one thinks Anubis is great, but often it is that or the website becoming entirely inaccessible because it is DDOSed to death by the AI scrapers.
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why are anime catgirls blocking my access to the Linux kernel?English10·8 days agoThey are much worse for accessibility, and also take longer to solve and are more distruptive for the majority of users.
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why are anime catgirls blocking my access to the Linux kernel?English1·8 days agoObviously I did that, but that just means the site becomes inaccessible even sooner.
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why are anime catgirls blocking my access to the Linux kernel?English41·9 days agoAha, an apologist for AI scraper DDOS, why didn’t you say so directly instead of wasting my time?
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why are anime catgirls blocking my access to the Linux kernel?English241·9 days agoYes, because Cloudflare routinely blocks entire IP ranges and puts people into endless captcha loops. And it snoops on all traffic and collects a lot of metadata about all your site visitors. And if you let them terminate TLS they will even analyse the passwords that people use to log into the services you run. It’s basically a huge survelliance dragnet and probably a front for the NSA.
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why are anime catgirls blocking my access to the Linux kernel?English31·9 days agoGreat that this is all theoretical 🤷 My server hardware might not be the newest but it is definitly not broken.
And besides, what good is that you can still barely access the server through ssh, when the cpu is constantly maxed out and site visitors only get a timeout when trying to access the services?
I don’t even get what you are trying to argue here. That the AI scraper DDOS isn’t so bad because in theory it shouldn’t crash the server? Are you even reading what you are writing yourself? 🤡
poVoq@slrpnk.netto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why are anime catgirls blocking my access to the Linux kernel?English111·9 days agoYou are right, it is actually worse, it usually just overloads the CPU so badly that it starts to throttle and then I can’t even access the server via SSH anymore. But sometimes it also crashes the server so that it reboots, and yes that can happen on modern CPUs as well.
I believe Garage is the only self-hosted option that allows you to directly expose to html links though.
Might be nice if you could test that with Piefed some time 😊
