I mean no offense by this at all, but I wouldn’t because it would indicate a poor understanding of cryptography to me as a user. Either that or being intentionally misleading. In either case, probably unsafe for the user. There does not need to be an extension to encrypt content such that the server never has access to it. It can be encrypted and sent to the host with a key the server never possesses.

I used to feel this way and still do to some extent. But he has lost me on the Israel conflict. Certainly on religion itself and philosophy I agree with him a lot. Much like how, conversely, with Mehdi Hassan, I agree a but bit politically, but not on religion.

The only people I can never recall taking issue with are Hitch and Fry, and even they probably have views I don’t like.

Fair, but I was making a general comment with tongue firmly in cheek. I didn’t mean to denigrate anybody. Certainly not any individual. It was broad commentary on the general, though certainly not ubiquitous, view on LLM’s in the larger communities on Lemmy.

Seems pragmatic and well-written. But it doesn’t say “LLM’s are hot garbage in all circumstances and people who use them are all smelly turds,” so I’m guessing there will be backlash in this community.

To clarify, I’m not saying any demographic is above poor privacy concerns. But there is a subtle difference between laziness / difficulty understanding how to mitigate the threat and the believe that it isn’t a threat but an okay behavior, however subtle that difference is. I don’t want to sound like an old man tilting at windmills and blaming things on the youth. I actually think it is a problem that they are just suffering, not responsible for.

My guess is most are very young. Goes to show our civil liberties worldwide, especially since 9/11, have eroded tremendously. Young people have grown up in a world where privacy is a joke and government spying is a foregone conclusion.

Maybe, but that number seems arbitrary. Keys are a bit easier to misplace, but phones are more likely to break in a drop. Both need replaced infrequently. When a key is lost, often locks must be rekeyed, meaning new keys for everybody; maybe that’s 5:1. One allows specific keys for specific users. There are of course pros and cons to each. I’m just saying listing all these steps seems to belabor the point.
