    I’ve got nothing against AppImages, but strong disagree there. Flatpaks (and also snaps, I guess) are easy to search for and easy to upgrade. Just add the repo and you’re done.

    In AppImages there is no built-in repository management or update machanism(?). At least I remember having to use some third-party tool to do all this, like “Gear” or whatever it’s name is, but they all felt very janky.

      They have the sync option to update without downloading the whole package again, GearLevel does this, but that’s a flatpak, there are several more options as well or just manual updates. Some of them even update themselves, if you trust the packager. And given how easy it is for random people to dump unofficial ports on Flathub I would check who made them there as closely as I do for my AppImages.
