It would be really nice if at some point PS5s could get a second life as cheap Steam Machines or even desktop PCs. I surely wouldn’t buy one now, but in a few years as a cheap second hand purchase it would be nice to have Linux running on them properly. So it is quite sad to see someone skilled with making that happen leave like this.
I really, really wish that there were laws that forced companies to allow people to unlock their devices once they lose support. Sony don’t make any money from PS3s any more, so why not allow people to unlock them and tinker?

Probably because there is stuff inside that Sony is licensing and can’t share access to since they had to pay. Like h264.

First, PS5s need to get cheap, which they still aren’t.
