I’m pretty sure the Pub doesn’t stand for Public, but rather Publish.
edit: not saying that it is private, just my opinion on whether the pub is an adjective or a verb

0·2 years agoBecause URLs are usually in ASCII. That was a standard. Check RFC 1738 and 3986. Now, you can use percent encoding, but why use that. It just complicates things.
You won’t get non latin usernames anytime soon. But you can change the display name using non latin charactets

1·2 years agoIt’s not really designed to solve anything. It just exists. The cool thing about it is advertisements are not possible natively. There is also no JS. So no creepy ass trackers. It’s basically like the very early days where JS or CSS was not a thing. Just markdown. With the additional security and privacy stuff of the modern web like encryption.

I use my own self hosted SearXNG.
Is there a good reason why? Even MAL takes user submissions.
