  • Disclaimer, I am cis.

Friend 1 chose a name, but later switched to a variation of her middle name.

Friend 2 chose a masc name when they were first experimenting with their new identity. Switched between they/he/they over about 6 mo. Finally seems to have settled on a gender neutral name and pronouns.

Friend 3 chose a variation of their given name and then eventually a different name entirely.

Friend 4 I didn’t know until after he was already comfortable in his identity. He uses a variation of his given name.

Coworker 1 uses a word that isnt traditionally a name.

All that to say, from what I’ve seen there’s a lot of options, and none of them are wrong. You might find that your initial choice doesn’t fit quite right, and it’s okay to experiment.

  • I’ve not been on linux for long, but I like my kubuntu system. Took a bit of fiddling (non standard video drivers, non standard Proton for steam, wayland was buggy on my hardware), but now it’s been working a treat for both gaming and productivity.

Judging by the sentiments for Ubuntu on here, I feel like it’s unfairly maligned. It seems like everyone wants Linux to be easier to adopt by the masses, but they don’t like the distros that fill that niche.

  • That’s really hard to narrow down; I suspect that she didn’t really want me from some point in childhood onward. When I was a teen she said that her duty to God was completed once I turned 18, and she’d be rid of me. When I turned 17, she developed short-timers syndrome, if you’ll pardon the slang, and I was kicked out. God’s gonna be so maaaaaaaddd!

It was hard going for 10 or so years, but I’m 38 now and doing just fine.
