The old fabric sacks let in bugs a lot easier, and you’d end up with weevils. Paper sacks are far better at preventing bugs. It also prevents dust explosions at the industrial level from static electricity. Flour is surprisingly explosive.

You can still get flour in cotton sacks though. Blue Bird flour comes in reusable cotton sacks.

We’re not that different though. It doesn’t vary that much between people. It’s pretty universally 20-25% of energy gets converted into mechanical energy, with the other 75-80% lost as heat.

What does differ is how mechanically efficient the bike is. A commercial gym stationary bike might only be 80% efficient at converting the energy put into the pedal down into the flywheel, and that is what gets read by the power meter. A high end race bike is above 95%.

Due to the roughly 25% efficiency, the math of kilojoules to calories burned is almost exactly 1:1.

Outside of a clinical lab where you get hooked up to a machine that reads the actual CO2 from your breath as you exercise, a power meter is the most accurate you’re going to get though.

No, their food is actually really good lol. They have open lunch where parents can drop in and eat lunch with their kids. I’ve been there and eaten their lunch. It’s really solid. Whenever possible, things have to be sourced locally and the menu fluctuates seasonally depending on what is available locally. The meat comes from a few different ranchers here in Colorado directly, the veggies come from local farmers, and the milk comes from one local dairy (which we also get delivered directly to our house).

And again, I live in a pretty rich district. The teachers are VERY well paid. The absolute minimum any fresh-out-of-school teacher can make is $63k. And that’s with just a bachelors in your first year teaching. Most of their teachers have a masters or a masters and extra credits, have been there several years, and make closer to $100k or more. With a PhD (which several of the teachers have) they cap out at $140k. Our specific school is pretty small, and we know almost all the teachers personally because we almost all live in the same two neighborhoods. There are several married teacher couples with advanced degrees pulling in close to $300k a year combined, and the teacher parking lot has more BMWs and Mercedes than anything. They’re not struggling.

Police have had Stingrays for well over a decade now, which are basically man-in-the-middle attacks. They mimic a real cell tower, so your phone connects to it like a normal cell tower. Then the police have full access to all transmissions your phone makes to that tower. That doesn’t give them access to things like your contacts that are stored encrypted locally, but it does give them access to your text messages in transit (if not E2EE encrypted), your voice data during transmission (so any phone calls you make they can listen in and record), and any other metadata in transmission.

Same for the pro lines. 12 pro was $999 in 2020. The 17 pro started at $1099 but they dropped the lowest 128GB storage tier. Same price as the 256GB model for the 12 pro. Inflation would put that at $1399 for the 17 pro.
