Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•When upper-class wealthy people don't want to date anyone lower, working, middle class people will claim "classism", but when middle-class or "normal"retail worker or janitor, no one has an issue.
36·3 months agoThis isn’t true.
Wealthier people like doctors date nurses even if the income gap is larger.
I’d honestly not date a retail worker either, cause I wouldn’t know what to talk about with them. A doctor can talk with a nurse. A doctor can’t talk with someone who is just selling clothes in H&M.
A fact: the lower the income, the lower the job requirement is and that means also lower knowledge is required and mostly done by either students who are still studying for a degree to earn some money or well, it’s people who chose to go into that branch and stayed there forever cause of being lazy.
So to me it depends: is the person in retail working in retail to get money while studying something else (interesting topics can be discussed) or is the person in retail cause"stuck".
Id rather date someone who learned a job (nurse, trainer, cook, stewardess, police officer,…) than a 40 year old H&M or McDonalds Cashier who actually never studied anything.
We can cry all we want but the fact is, low income job = low requirement = lower inteliigence = no deep conversations. It’s what it is, I wish it wasn’t like that but it is.
Do you think a pilot, politician, doctor, engineer, etc. cares if they have a wife who earns less then them? It’s very hard to find someone who will even match their income. They have enough money. They want deep conversations with interesting people and interesting people can RARELY or very unlikely be found if they just work “retail” since 20 years.
I know a few cool people who are very smart that work retail jobs, but thats like 2 out of 1000. The others are boring people.
A millionair would also not date a normal average joey with high income, because they are living in their own bubble. Like you won’t even be able to talk with them and they won’t even be able to talk with you, because they are either rich and dumb or rich and super smart.
I dated someone from H&M and after shift they just played computer games or watched netflix. During dinner she ranted about how her coworker is sick and how busy it was. But that was so boring. Compare that to dating a police officer who can tell you a wild story or a nurse what they experienced or the pilot… you know what I mean?
Thats my personal take on why I wouldn’t date anyone working only retail or other low income jobs IF NOT STUDYING to make money until they are done. If someone is 25 and still working retail its a red flag for me.
The biggest thing though is that if you look at the income gaps it doesn’t matter at a specific point. If I’d earn 10k+$/€ a month I’d not care what my new partner is doing. But I’d make sure I find someone interesting and the first place to look would not be in retail.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Room temperature IQ is a far bigger insult in Europe than America.
55·3 months agoThats assuming you are applying IQ messurement on the american system and not using AIQ (american intelligence quotient) which is basically the same as IQ, just multiplied by 3.6
AIQ = IQx3.6
But yes, your joke is funny, assuming you used IQ as the messurement and not AIQ which is officially used in the united states.
With that logic, someone who can lift 100 lb is stronger than someone who can lift 99 kg, because we aren’t multiplying lb x 2.2 anymore.
If someone has an IQ of 120, that means he has an AIQ of 432. So 120 = 432.
“Room temperature IQ is a far bigger insult in Europe than America.” is still an insult though, since it’s usually about 70°F, way less than 432 AIQ. It’s 362 points below the average AIQ - so an insult.

Europe@feddit.org•Europe Begins to Tiptoe Away From Key Climate PoliciesEnglish
12·4 months agoExactly, we all know that.
Politicians have 1 job: Choosing climate actions that protect economic stability instead of undermining it.
Haven’t seen anything so far. It’s mostly just throwing the economics out the window for climate actions that are valid. But you can’t throw away a functioning economy just for climate actions even if they are good.
You are correct, and again we all know it: ignoring climate risks will likely make future economic and migration crises worse. But throwing your economy away just for reducing climate risks will make all crises worse too.
Climate risk is REAL but not as horrible as media and some make it. A damaged economy will break the EU faster, + migration won’t stop cause we will be migrating elsewhere if possible (Singapore, USA,…) if we can.
People like to make this a black and white topic, in reality economics > climate in the end.
We practise this in our everyday life too: save yourself, then the rest. You can’t save the world if you destroy your own (economics). And with strong econmic you can advance to more climate friendly technology.
The tough reality is: get use to a 3°C world. It’s coming anyways, no matter if US and EU go emission neutral and back up with a strong economy.

Europe@feddit.org•Europe Begins to Tiptoe Away From Key Climate PoliciesEnglish
28·4 months agoGood, cause I will survive on a 3°C warmer planet but not in a wrecked economy.
Nobody is denying climate change, but open your eyes. Europe and the small countries won’t change anything, even with zero emissions.
Most climate models are unreliable and exaggerate warming, most climate policies are too expensive, most arguments are fear based communication.
If someone tells me they are afraid of the Gulf Stream slowing down so fast that it will bring us in an ice age I quit talking. Most climate models added “water” from other oceans in the system and yeah, it slows down.
EU’s concerns should be more russia focused, leaders pumping money they dont have from their citizens to ukraine, migrating every human to the EU without checking who they are.
And if you say this, you are a racist. We all know that 90% of the refugees coming are good people and need help. But you cant let 100% in cause of the 10% terrorists. Keep the good and people in need, get rid of the idi.ots. But now I am a racist for saying that.
Next problem EU will have with America shutting down Venezuelan Drug exports will be fentanyl. They are taking down the citizins with poison and will watch, let them in.
This is the whole issue with letting everyone in without checking who they are. I don’t open my door and let everyone in.
I heard that too.
But my problem is that if I do regret it I won’t be able to change it. It’s just too risky for me to make a child and just the thought alone of it being a burdon the whole time would be unfair.
I know it’s likely it won’t be like that and that I might not even regret it. But if I am not 100% for it now, I don’t think I can do it.

Europe@feddit.org•Germany’s Merz strikes debt deal to fund defence and infrastructureEnglish
33·1 year agoIt is so disgusting that Merz deliberately prevented this with pleasure when the traffic light coalition was still in power.
Let me explain: Friedrich Merz, leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) intentionally blocked certain policies uring the time when the “traffic light” coalition (SPD, Greens, and FDP) were in power in Germany. Merz was not just passively opposing these actions, but did so with a sense for political reasons.
Im german and I know he is an asshole.
We need an arena so we can throw in Putin, Trump, Merz and other trash politicians and rich idiots so we can finally just live in peace.
Im sure during new year 2019 to 2020 a rocket hit me somewhere and launched me to a dystopian timeline I shouldnt even be here. I didn’t deserve to be watching this mess unfold. Why am I here?
