Hunting people for sport is part of white cultural heritage. Taking that away is the real genocide

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How old did you get your driver's license? Did you learn driving from a driving school or from parents? (or some friend or relative?)
1·20 days agoI had drivers ed in my high school in PA 2 decades ago, but I think the school district I’m currently living in no longer had it, instead it’s all done through a driving school I think. I don’t think it was always that way, my guess is a “cost cutting” measure by the goo legislature at some point in the 2010s

4·20 days agoI had drivers ed in high school (over 2 decades ago, in PA) and my parents took me out to drive in addition to that. I learned on an automatic first, but my parents also taught me to drive manual. My daily driver for the last 2 decades had been a manual, until this new car we bought last year. We have 2 kids now and my wife can’t drive manual, well she could but doesn’t like it, and it’s more important we can both drive the vehicle, but I digress. I haven’t looked into it, but I’ve heard that there is no drivers ed classes in the school district we’re in now, that learning is done through driving schools, not sure how I feel about that
When I took the written exam for the permit, it was pretty easy. Most things make sense. You’ll still want to read up to know symbol and sign meanings, and to understand more niche rules.
For the actual driving, the more practice you get in the better you’ll be. You’ll get used to the car your driving, start understanding usual patterns of other drivers, and different driving conditions. It’s funny looking back and whenever I drove by a semi on an undivided highway I would be so far over on the shoulder because I was nervous.
I also have ADHD which is often cited as a risk factor for driving but it mostly works out well for me. It’s a lot of stimuli coming at you requiring a lot of small focus switching and I find it really engaging. Generally the thing that gets me is if the passenger tries to have a serious conversation with me, that is when my driving ability diminishes.
Personally I feel the US needs more density, with walkable neighborhoods, and better mass transit. Cars shouldn’t be a necessity, instead of being freeing, they are a yoke on the working class

Haven’t even played one since then. I guess I used it for the time I played destiny and those were linked… speaking of another game that just couldn’t realize its potential
I played wow for way too long. Got into it and my undiagnosed at the time ADHD just couldn’t handle it. At least I ended up burning out on it with enough time to not fail college 😜

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When/how frequently do you replace your phone with a new one?
1·1 month agoI had an iPhone 3gs, then an iPhone 6s, can’t recall what years, but they were new phones, just not the newest model out. That 6s got to be a real pain at the end, I’d have to sync my photos and then delete them, and delete apps to give enough space for iOS updates since I only had the 16gb version. In 2022 I think they were handing out big trade in offers to get people off 3g phones so I got an iPhone 13 mini with 512gb. Going to ride this thing for a while
Before I had an iPhone I had various Nokia flip phones. I’d have to replace them every year or 2 because I had a tendency for them to catch when pulling them out of my pocket and slip from my grasp. After a few falls they’d start getting finicky and less responsive. I still have this happen with the iPhones, but they keep trucking
Edit: I have had charging issues with my 6s and 13 mini a few times. But after giving the port a thorough cleaning it always went back to working. I don’t think I was particularly gentle
My 6s had the battery degrade significantly a year (or few?) before I traded it in. I took it in to have Apple replace it, but the phone got bricked and they replaced the phone for just the price of the battery. I had hoped I’d get a 32gb model then because the 16gb was discontinued, but guess they still had stock. My battery for the 13 mini is starting to wear down, so I think in a year I might have it replaced. Might be neat to do myself, just don’t think I’ll have the time to

I think my management is decent about receiving feedback, but are also very into AI utilization right now. I’m not sure what level of feedback to give, because I do feel being too obstinate and negative would mark me, and with my adhd I often dont have a good read on where that line is. But I’d love to press them on where it will stop being worth it to keep pushing it? When the venture capital dries up? Climate/local data center regulations finally get implemented? Because those will all drive token cost up by a lot
