Just think. We are four dimensional consciousness with the ability to project a small part of our will into this third dimension. I have been around since production servers were predominantly HP-UX, Solaris, and AIX. I settled on Vi because it was the one common editor that was preinstalled on every *NIX OS, including Linux and you could jump right into edit mode while reading a file without having to exit the preview first.

Nano is fine, but one you’ve gone through the pain of committing Vi to muscle memory, there’s no point to switch.

I dunno. I have mixture of Windows, Linux and Mac, and the M chip macs are a fucking beast. Stable, stupid fast, silent, and cool (as in temperature).

I am transitioning all remaining Windows workstations to Proxmox VE based VDIs, but for the people that need a total solution on the road and offline, the mac is hard to beat. Win11 ARM as a VM on Apple silicone runs faster, with less power draw and with significantly less heat than the original installnon raw metal. I’m not sure what dev tools your shop is using for the Macs, but we have had no issues.

Old PCs with Linux, Openclaw, and a handful of LLM models installed, configured by ChatGPT, can be up and running in less than an hour. Once running, people can have them do all sorts of tasks.

So a perfect open source name then.

The myth of Steve Jobs needed the actual genius of others to exist. Steve’s gift to the world was recognizing and pointing out actual gifts tonthe world that would have otherwise gone unoticed or not brought to their full potential.

If Steve was still around, he would have taken Ronald’s idea and had it rebuilt with a little polish and an exorbitant price tag.

I am pretty sure I started with either Halloween or Mother’s Day because Red Hat Linux for Dummies came with Red Hat 2.1 which I am pretty sure came out in 96 or 97. I know Red Hat 6 was released in 1999, because I was neck deep in Y2K work at the time I installed it on my Compaq laptop.

I have been on this Linux jam since 1996 with a CD copy of Red Hat that came with a magazine (Byte, maybe?). In 2018 I made the jump to Debian based distros specifically because I got tired of the surprises. Now my lab runs LMDE. The only thing more stable and boring is Debian Stable itself.

Like you said, I want to focus on my projects, not have the OS be my project.
