  • It’s a tragedy that there are no sanctions against Israel yet.

The lack of response to uphold international law and human rights reduces confidence in the whole justice system. Prosecution then going after civil activism when state terrorism receives no response but seemingly support is furthermore detrimental.

Amnesty International and others have argued that [Section 129 of the German Criminal Code, which forbids the formation and membership of criminal organizations] is being misused by German prosecutors.

The defense, for its part, told DW that the prosecutors have not proved that “Palestine Action Germany” even exists as a formal organization.

Even if they could be considered a criminal or terrorist organization, if they’re targeting a company that pushes injustice specifically, it’s hard not to have sympathy and, at the same time, lose faith in the justice system/a just system.

If the government had put sanctions in place, this kind of activism wouldn’t be necessary and likely wouldn’t be happening.

Videos posted online appear to show the activists breaking into the Elbit Systems subsidiary offices in the southern city of Ulm, damaging several computers and other technical equipment, and spray-painting slogans on the walls, including “baby killers.” According to the defense, when security personnel on site alerted the police, the activists waited on site to be arrested.

It’s hard to equate this kind of sabotage to terrorism that attacks civilians.

  • For a little while now I’ve wanted to ask my representatives why there’s no sanctions on Trump yet, and if any are planned. These new tariffs certainly show appeasement or defusion doesn’t work. All while we’re losing much more in terms of international rule of law and the incoming long term impacts.

They’re probably hesitant/refusing sanctions because we’re so connected to the US, economically and politically. But seeing the US government violate international law and no consequences being taken like against Russian war-connected people is frustrating to see.

I wonder if Trump wouldn’t be more willing to leave Iran if Europe put more pressure on him.

  • Russia’s main demand is no Nato.

This is bullshit. ‘No NATO’ is one of Russia’s many lies, a talking point, a pushed narrative, a lie they used at some point. At the same time, Putin has publicly stated intention of getting control of UDSSR land “back”.

NATO was never an enemy of a collaborative or just Russia. It was only opposition to military action.

Giving in to ‘no Nato’ is giving up on autonomy and on being able to defend, with all its consequences.

Today’s USA under Trump is more of an ally to Russia than not. Trump is actively working for Putin and against Europe. It’s just that the political and systematic environment protects us from worse, for now.

  • Which relations specifically do you suggest we rebuild?

The Russia before the recent invasion was a Russia preparing for war. Russia has and had explicit pursued goals of destabilization of Europe and making Europe dependent. and Russia wants its UDSSR land and control back. The US isn’t the problem in that relationship. I certainly don’t want back into that trajectory.

China has its own voiced claims and seekings of foreign territories. They’re fundamentally egoistic and pursuing control and dominance. It was an asymmetric trade, making use of the open European market while having a closed domestic market. They were stealing know-how and then used subsidization to weaken and drive out European competition. I don’t want back onto that relationship and trajectory either.

We need new kinds of relations. And the US doesn’t stand in the way of that. It’s another party we need new kinds of relations with.
