Any of JS Bach’s works for organ. Toccata and Fugue in D minor is the most famous, but I mean the guy wrote like a million of them. Adagio and Fugue in C Major or Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor are a couple more examples that I find particularly nourishing. (I’ve never heard music described as nourishing before, but I like that. It’s a great way of putting it.)

If I told this to 2005 me he’d think I flipped my lid. 😜

Octavio@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you comsume any tobacco products (e.g. "smoking") or alcoholic beverages? Why or why not?7·19 days agoI started smoking and drinking at 12 because I thought it would make me look cool and developed a pretty bad drinking habit in high school and college. After college it got worse and there were some severe consequences. Finally got sober at 30. I’d been trying to quit smoking for years but would always light up when I’d had a few beers and since that was pretty much all the time, I wasn’t able to quit smoking until I quit drinking.
I haven’t touched either in almost 27 years and I’m so much better off for it.

I take it so that my coworkers survive.

(I only answered with a joke because you’ve already gotten several high-quality responses, otherwise I never would have done that).
Octavio@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you feel about taking TRT as you age?2·25 days agoMaybe if I had a medical condition, it would be different, but to take it as a response to normal, age-related lowering of testosterone levels, no way. For me, having my testosterone level go down as I reached late middle age was nothing but a relief. I could just mellow out and relax for the first time in my life. I didn’t have to be so competitive in everything. I’m not as good at sports and I’m not as valuable of an employee anymore, but honestly those are both fine. Who cares. I take time to smell the daisies. YMMV

But earlier this year I bought a cheap Windows 11 machine because Windows was required for a contract I thought I was going to get (but didn’t). I was going to return it but thought meh it might be nice to have a personal laptop I can play around with. But I was unimpressed with Windows 11 so much that it mostly gathers dust now.
I’m thinking this is the perfect opportunity to take the plunge into Linux. Has anyone on here used Linux and have any advice?
Last Kiss by Wayne Cochran. You kids probably remember the Pearl Jam version, which was a bit more subdued. But the 1964 hit by J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers is very upbeat and cheerful sounding. It’s about a boy who gets his girlfriend killed in a car accident while on a date and holding her as she dies. He’s consumed with guilt and can only think about dying so he can see her again in heaven.
