Senior Chief Petty Officer. Starfleet is in my blood, and I’ve spent my entire adult life in service to boldly going.

Keiko and Molly are my favorite humans, but Transporter Room 3 will always be my favorite.

Just don’t ask who what’s in the pattern buffer.

  • I tested this with my Facebook app in 2013. Found a Spanish radio station, set my phone down next to it overnight, and for several weeks I was seeing ads exclusively in Spanish. Deleted the app the first day I saw them in Spanish, and deleted my account not long after that.

My wife still uses them after 5 years together and me pointing out all the times it’s obviously eavesdropping on us, and she’s even been creeped out by it before. Still uses it…

Unless my microphone and camera have physical switches, I will assume they are being used. Those little “your camera and microphone are off” icons in the corner of the screen don’t reassure me.

  • It was.

In Ohio? I’m almost positive it isn’t legal. It’s definitely illegal in states like California. But they’re banking on nobody recording their interview audio (which I will now be doing as Ohio is single-party state) and nobody complaining if asked.

I doubt it’s a company policy, but I did send an email to their company offices to complain about it, for all the good it will do.

  • Not programming, but in the same vein, A Trek Bicycle store manager asked me in an interview if I would be willing to work a trial shift the next day building bicycles. Unpaid, of course. Just to see if I was a good fit.

Of course, since I was used to building 50 a day, I would have gotten all of them done in a single shift whereas they were needing to call in stores from surrounding areas to come help in a few days.

I laughed and said if they needed help tomorrow I would be happy to work for my usual fee of $20/bike.

Oddly, I did not get the job

  • I use my cell data in my bedroom because it’s more stable than my router connection. I wish I had control of the router, but it’s not my house. I’d just move the router to a more centralized location instead of the farthest corner.

Back before I moved, I kept the router at one of the reduced power modes it had built in(can’t remember the exact settings) since the room it sat in was the best room for signal distribution, you still got full signal anywhere you went.
