For Lemmy it’s “verification beans” and you’re not allowed to poop for three days.

Many were increasingly of the opinion that they’d all made a big mistake in making text editors in the first place. And some said that even making operating systems had been a bad move, and that no one should ever have built computers at all.

“So uh I have this idea for a cartoon or something. Um, it’s like there’s these fucked up kids…”
“Uh huh”
“…and like through the power of, of…”
“…understanding.”
“Oh yeah it can totally be understanding or like forgiveness or something umm they like overcome all their fears, and then they turn out totally fine…”
I wish this was just a cartoon so I could be like:
“This is real as fuck, I love the way they don’t give up!”
Tweet about it:
“More stories like this! So important!”
But it really happened OH GOD IT REALLY HAPPENED. WHAT THE FUCK.

Gee I hope he doesn’t jack off

I’m not saying words really loudly in my head while getting coffee. I just read the plots as I normally do, and make coffee as I normally do. It feels like magic.
Hey guy it probably feels like magic because you’re completely overselling where we’re at in terms of this kind of technology and we definitely aren’t anywhere close to an AI casually reading our casual thoughts and doing research based on them.
Further, yes, yikes, this is very fucking dystopian when you consider the AIs this is meant to interface with are corporate owned, meaning corporations will have ownership over your thoughts. You don’t think they’re going to let you retains rights once a copy of is it in their servers? At the very least they will give themselves certain rights over the copy of your thoughts, and you may not even be able to easily access a copy yourself. It just feels insane to even consider to freely give my thoughts as data up to a private company.
What would this mean for someone who has issues with intrusive thoughts? Would the AI report them to authorities as a danger to themselves or others because of their thoughts? Intrusive thoughts they cannot control or stop?
Will it report you to HR because you had some mildly dirty thoughts about an attractive coworker? It just seems like such a massive risk because humans are much less in control of their thoughts than we think.
Unrelated, I like that “glitch” is a yiddish word and makes me think of an old jewish guy kvetching about his “glitching” computer.
Is this a… cat? a… dog? a catdog???
holy amorphous blob

I’m not even near the fires and I’ve been cooped up inside for days because the AQI is insanely bad all over the state.

The fact that the US has turned literally everything into something you can gamble on really shows how much of a failure of a society the US truly is.
The social contract has been dead for 50 years and yet people younger than fifty still out there acting like nothings wrong, and all you need to do is “get a better job” and everything will be fine.
Man I’m not sure getting a better job is gonna help me escape climate change exacerbated wildfires, nor the gambling markets that incentivize arson.

Those indeed can be fun but be aware they’re almost assuredly doing facial recognition on their users, and the whole system works by always retrieving the files themselves from a remote server, I’m fairly sure they don’t even cache on your phone (I could be wrong there, though). It’s really up to you if you think it’s all fun enough and worth having fun socializing with your friends with the risk of lack of privacy in that respect. Maybe you can keep it to a minimum of anything important being talked about? Unless you have a major reason to worry about being targeted, most people can probably safely dip in just for a handful of throwaway conversations with friends.
Sorry other folk don’t read modern slang.

I learned a decent bit about how biometric authentication works (or at least this specific implementation) by installing, setting up, and tweaking settings for Biopass. I also learned about how when you do first login using this method, it can fail to unlock keyrings because the password authentication has been bypassed so no password has been provided to unlock the keyring. It includes anti-spoofing local AI models, and the dev plans to have the option for the user to download and use any model for anti-spoofing/recognition. Interesting stuff.

It’s path down the hill was algorithmically determined but it’s actually a black box so I can’t tell you why it followed the path it did at all actually.

Yeah, this “similar enough sounding domain name” tactic is far from new, and they must just be using new SEO tricks to get their sites to surface to users, that or illegitimate ad services promoting them.

I dunno, the GameStop Bros are still waiting for MOASS. So I’d say the wealthy have more ways to keep the plates spinning than we wish they did.
