Welcome to the fold! Linux Mint is great and gaming works too if that’s your thing. Windows is dead. LONG LIVE LINUX

kbin was a great place to call home, while it lasted. #RIP
Talaraine@fedia.ioto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are you more scared of horror when you were younger, or more scared as you got older?2·1 month agoFor my part as a kid, anything that was scary wasn’t just scary in a classical sense but because it was fast, violent, and unrecognizable. Nowadays most of what’s scary is easily recognizable and I think many of us have spent time thinking about just how we’d react in that situation. (Whether or not it would work, mind you xD). Now, real horror… not the silly shit in the movies… still retains some of that ‘magic’. (I hate myself for calling this magic, I hate it haha). Indie horror video games exemplify this horror, imo, because it’s almost completely fabricated from someone’s imagination that’s not mainstream at all… it jumps out at you and in a split second you have to friend/foe it.
I watch Hollow play these games (cuz no thank you), in attempt to ‘normalize’ more and more so I can just enjoy a quiet evening in the dark with a smile.
I loved the vanilla Bazzite experience. A+. That being said, if you want to do pretty much any tinkering, you’re gonna have to roll up your sleeves. The atomic experience seems destined to be static. _
Went back to Linux Mint so I could experiment as I liked.

You can even put it into a permanent system prompt. I do think the 4o personality was much chummier, but I’m mainly irritated at what’s already been mentioned here. You put down money for an experience, you like the experience, and then they’re like YOINK.
Pretty soon it will just be AI glasses talking to one another all the way down.
Went gaga for mass effect years ago and my ring tone is still the galaxy map tune. Easily recognizable, I sometimes link up with other fans and tbh I can’t be bothered to change it xD
Talaraine@fedia.ioto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Considering that AI is "hallucinating", and able to make up information that seems true based on what the model was trained on, what is the difference between current AI and the human brain?51·3 months agoThis is pretty much exactly how I explain hallucinations to people. In addition, I posited that maybe LLMs are more human than we think, since we pretty much make up shit all the time. xD

I’m patently against subscriptions but am currently paying for ChatGPT plus. I’m also that girl who’s installed other models on some decently beefy machines and have compared/contrasted. While I also don’t think AI is going to be everything to all people and that it has very specific applications, I’m literally the target audience and I’ve found ChatGPT to be superior in everything except math/complex problems/coding. That’s what I’ve got Mixtral for. _
Talaraine@fedia.ioto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Driving through Nebraska twice nearly broke me. The people who live there must be among the hardest motherfuckers alive.39·4 months agoI did this drive once. Well, my husband did and I was in the passenger seat so I got a real GOOD look at all the nothing. Late at night we actually stopped and got out because 1) we needed a stretch and 2) there was a full moon. We were far enough out that there weren’t any cornfields either, just undulating hills of sand sparsely covered with grass. It was beautiful in that light, and when we got back in I did some searches on the place.
You may not be surprised to find out that place used to be the bottom of an ocean. Doesn’t look like it’s changed much.
Yeah but these laws are protecting corporate assets so…
Well this makes the situation make more sense. How could you possibly make a profit setting up these factories in America without the use of essentially slave labor?

Talaraine@fedia.ioto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If all your basic needs were met and you didn't have to work to get by, what would you do with your life?2·6 months agoThis right here. While my career might be in tech, nothing ever calls me like being a proper steward of the land. You can wake up and look out and see what you did growing and becoming stronger every day. It enriches your soul.
And we aren’t even talking about how you feel when you donate food to people who need it.
Talaraine@fedia.ioto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the current Conservative (US) talking points?2·6 months agoI would really be entertained if you could ask your friends what they thought of yesterday’s executive order that will require the military to assist law enforcement. Seems like a real canary in the coal-mine kind of question.
Talaraine@fedia.ioto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Where do you go when you have no one to talk to?41·6 months agoI think many of us have been here before. The first thing to realize is that… you aren’t the first and won’t be the last. I’m sorry you’ve had trouble in life. I’m having trouble now too, but different… and feel there’s nobody I can really talk to about it. I have friends who are also having trouble and while we talk, the reality is that all my good wishes and time to time help doesn’t solve their problems either. In the end it’s up to them.
“Life is a struggle” isn’t just an axiom.
The first thing any lonely person can do is really learn to love spending time with themselves. It involves a lot of soul searching, exploring, learning what things in life interest them enough to explore on their own. When you accomplish that, take what you’re interested in and go find other people who are interested in it. Two people in the world who might be meant for each other, but just stay at home because they don’t want to get out there… will never ever meet.
Life is work. Friends are work. Relationships are work. If you just want to be happy alone and by yourself, guess what? Work.
This is a crossroads in your life, where you get to decide which way to go. It may seem overwhelming, but in the end it starts with one simple thing. What thing in the world makes you happy? If that’s nothing, then start with, what thing in the world makes you less sad?
Every house has a foundation. Time to build yours.

Just for completeness, I like Bazzite for gaming over Linux Mint, but Linux Mint should still work fine.
I just spit my coffee. Needed that laugh.
