And every time I see you grin, I’m such a happy individual
Determine if the relationship is having a negative impact on you, then either 1) assess why it’s hurting you and if there’s anything to adjust about how you’re processing it, or 2) protect your mental health by setting up the boundaries that you need, cutting off as a last resort.
Be cautious about asking this online though. People are tribal about politics and have zero investment in your IRL relationships, so you may see lots of rationalizing of cutting off a lifelong friend, family member, spouse, etc without much nuance. Only you have the proper perspective to determine what you’d be sacrificing and if it’s a net positive.
Part of it seems to stem from people’s excitement to infodump about how federated social media works.
That’s relevant and interesting to learn about, but the average person just needs to hear “make and account here and start browsing memes” first.

Yes, they forgot the apostrophe, so the Dad took “Have you seen the dogs bowl?” to mean “Have you seen the dogs go bowling?”
Public opinion seems to be souring on all the big corporate social media sites, and I truly think if we’re able to get the word out about federated social media platforms, people will jump ship.
Also, it’s hard to dislike a platform that isn’t showing ads, selling user data, or generally making decisions for the enrichment of shareholders.
Hey, if you don’t mind, could you share that lemmy watermark?
I’ve been sneaking a little transparent Lemming in the corner of the memes I’ve made lately, but the text might be useful too because people elsewhere probably won’t recognize the Lemmy mascot.
Thanks. Fingers crossed!
I don’t think I was that early, but I made my account about a week before the 3rd party shutdown. I’d imagine a bunch of others did too.
I’m usually a lurker, but I decided to just go ahead and make one that I was missing. Something about personally wanting Lemmy to grow is motivating to me.
I made an XCOM community on Lemmy.world, and even though I’m the only one posting so far, it’s fun to watch the subscriber count grow. Already at 50!
It’s the social media equivalent of supporting a bunch of Mom and Pop shops (or opening your own!) vs some hyper-sanitized, corporate monstrosity like Wal-Mart.
