This is absolutely correct.

you might as well use the manifest v3 version of ublock without seeing a difference, right?

Can confirm, I was thinking about switching off of Chrome due to this but since I don’t use the custom stuff (much) I’m not noticing a difference with the v3 compatible “light” version of uBlock Origin.

Tried both, qBittorrent is much heavier on the CPU just sitting there idling. I do have a large amount of torrents, maybe over 200, and I didn’t expect to notice such a difference.

Veritasium. They still make great videos, I would argue better ones, and if private equity can take the hint to do it like that we’d be in good shape.

Same here, I’d use it as an example of how to do that right.

That’s the nice thing about Plex, you just stream your Plex library using Plex, and Plex is also the only place you and anyone you share with need to log in.

Plex. Right now we’re on vacation and can chill out with our current shows before bedtime, watching on the TV of the relative hosting us. No fuss. Aside from Movies and TV Series it also holds my music collection, Plexamp is awesome.

I’ve not gotten very deep into selfhosting due to priorities and time but I look forward to trying Immich as well as Home Assistant in the future.

They’re still the ones enabling this method and not doing anything against offenses like this.

The existence of such a map should tell us all there is to say.

There was a time when Chrome was that much better. Since then, nothing else has been better enough to switch.

The Lite version works fine for me. Would I prefer the full version? Sure. But migrating to a different browser is not that high on the list of things I have energy for.

Not exactly moving on, just putting another version on the horizon. It’ll take some time, and if it somehow doesn’t then that’s not really a problem.

I really don’t mind them capitalizing on this, the echo chamber just makes it super annoying.

I’ve never seen a bunch of pretentious assholes react so hard to a product they don’t use so loudly.

Very apt way of putting it.

Here’s another meme that came to mind:

With that, I mean, I guess we all agree you are going to get fucked by Plex at some point. They’ve been slowly cranking up the heat in the pot. I love my media library and I just couldn’t stand waiting for the rolling boil. I’ve been using Adobe products since 1999. I recognize an abusive relationship when I see it.

You are more concerned with people’s relationship with Plex than the people actually using it. I can’t speak for free tier users, but lifetime pass holders have yet to be affected by changes in how Plex does business. Until that changes, can you please stop acting like the sky is falling?

We’ll just watch from the sidelines and will be here to help you migrate once (not if) these things happen.

Would be nice if you guys could do that quietly. Not every change in how Plex does business needs to echo through social media. We’ll let you know when the time comes.

The problem is not how ‘this feature is there", but how long until "this feature is now $X.XX’.

Would be lovely if people could shut up about things that haven’t happened yet. Plex isn’t climate change, I’ll switch when it starts inconveniencing me.

It wouldn’t really, but you should already see “the writing on the wall”. Your own collections aren’t prioritized, and who knows what they’ll do next - putting ads into your own personal collections maybe?

A lot of people are too hung up on what could happen, rather than what is happening. I don’t see anything other than my own media since Plex can remember that that’s how I want to use it. In daily use I don’t see any of their additional attempts to generate income. I can share with anyone easily and not expect them to mess with any VPN or other tricks to connect remotely, and neither do I have to set any of that up.

It’s nice that there are good alternatives, but none of them are a complete replacement for Plex. Jellyfin users on lemmy are just in a very special bubble within a bubble.

Plexamp is super neat.

I run into this with my wife because we put different importance on different information, and I tend to go for succinct rather than take an hour to get something across.

Austria here. Costs go from nothing to basically nothing. Prescribed medicine costs a flat fee of a few € per item/box. Wait times are usually short but can vary, I’ve only had really bad experiences for general doctors outside of normal hours (there are always some of them open for availability on weekends and holidays). But that’s to be expected.
