Technology@lemmy.world•Exclusive: Here's How Much OpenAI Spends On Inference and Its Revenue Share With MicrosoftEnglish
8·1 month agoMy internal model of OpenAI is that its a shady business. They are in the industry of stealing data and information and transforming it into a service. With all of the drama surrounding their non-profit transition, and the fact that Altman was kicked out for essentially lying; I’m not surprised that figures and numbers leaked and reported to not line up.
Nevertheless, I kinda hope that AI inference continues to get cheaper. Like it or not, a lot of AI companies are offering their services at a discount in a feeble attempt to get a larger share of the market. This incentives them to basically lie about their capabilities, overpromice and under deliver. If the AI bubble we’re to pop it would be nice if the fallout weren’t as bad, and I think lower inference cost would help with that.

1562·7 months agoLOL. If you have to buy your customers to get them to use your product, maybe you aren’t offering a good product to begin with.
Specifically, the pockets come from the NCOSE (National Center on Sexual Exploitation), who’s purpose is to quote, “defend human dignity”.
I kinda feel like defending human dignity is not having your son involved in a lawsuit against porn sites.

1·7 months agoYes… But technically you do have other legal obligations like reporting and certain data collection, like who owns what IP for example.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the worst "corporate speak/buzzwords" that you absolutely hate?English
1·7 months agoI mean that one is kinda funny. “Project Sloth” might have worked a bit better but been too on the nose.
Finally! Thank you. Makes lots of sense. I’ve fucked up at least two systems in my life by messing with drivers/settings when I didn’t know what I was doing. That would have certainly helped. I’ll have to check it bazzite. I game too through Steam/Proton and it’s not exactly a 100% match in terms of performance when compared to Windows.
Nano! Nano!
Okay, I get what an immutable distro is. I get it’s advantages in security/safety. But can someone please explain why this matters? Like, how much safer is this really? I don’t understand the cost/benefit ratio of having an immutable core, especially since compromising the core will probably require fully compromising one or more privileged processes first, at which point it would be game over for a mutable distro as well.
Anybody know if it has a phased array antenna? a) those are cool b) they can aim much faster than an antenna that needs to physically pivot

9·8 months agoJust wondering, what org specifically asks for 4chan use?
This article is great, super information sense, doesn’t try to spin a narrative, just investigates the facts.
I find it crazy that as a system this guy of all people managed to slip though the cracks. An autist with Hitler’s signature tatooed on his arm, combined with arrests and jail time for stalking and harassing women, and nobody thought to give this guy the mandatory anti radicalization treatment? Kind of insane. Lots of holes in the Swiss Cheese model.
On the other hand, what could have been done? The guy had no social support network, no family that would have taken care of him. You can’t force someone to have friends, or to get them to take the prerequisite steps to overcome whatever might be holding them back. Getting rid of X? Maybe that would help things in aggregate, but I’m and optimist and believe that people are smart enough to no be racist just because their feed is.

22·8 months agoI think it’s unlikely you can donate without any conversions…
Yeah haha I didn’t write this well. What I’m trying to say is that where you have socialized healthcare people are way less likely to agree with the idea that you’re free to not wear a helmet. I just worded that poorly.
But what about the reverse argument?
The elders know much more than the young generation, shouldn’t they have a larger say?
Basically, Japan is the most developed nation on earth. Not because of technology, or culture, or anything of the sort. But they were the first developed nation to have their birth rate drop and pyramid start shrinking. In that sense, their policies are ahead of every country on earth that still keeps admitting massive amounts of immigrants to keep their populations up.

I’ve always thought that regular expressions are just specifications for state machines. They aren’t that difficult.

I don’t have time for it. I live so far from my friends that it takes me an hour+ if I want to hang out.
My house is always dirty, I don’t have the will to clean.
People are more anxious and have less common friends (low clustering coefficient).
