  • Think assets - the main issue is that all major currencies, banks, and exchanges are deeply correlated to the petro dollar - anything tied more closely to the currency than it is to practical reality is likely too correlated to the usd.

Think of things that could remain useful and valuable outside of the financial system collapse

precious metals, real estate, tools, farms, service and manufacturing businesses

These assets require more effort and have less protections and are currently less liquid than the standard financial instruments of stocks and bonds.

however as a person who beleives in the inevitability of a global financial currency reset/collapse within my lifetime - i weigh those risks and efforts and liquidity as more acceptable than the old/current era’s stocks and bonds - i still hedge my bet by owning stocks and bonds of course - but the ratio between real assets and financial instruments is shifting more to real assets

Do not trust financial instruments that represent real assets like reits or things like gld/slv or futures - during a force majeure event they will just be pieces of unenforced paper

  • I really recomend checking out a weight loss clinic, the one i went with was not a chain and didnt accept insurance, its run by an obesity M.D. doctor, and their spouse a professional dietician. There they prescribed me a flexible diet that has me going to the grocery store and cooking in the kitchen and an excersize plan that has me going regularly to the gym (in the beginning with a personal trainer) and weekly tirzeptide injections and some specific supplements after taking blood work.

I’ve lost over 100 lbs, sustainably at about 2lbs/week, and i feel better than I ever have.

It costs me about 500$/month for the service - cheaper exists - but the support from the professionals along with the guided plan has worked wonders, now that im approaching my goal the conversation has evolved into safely tapering off tirzeptide, how to avoid rebound weight gain (like i have in the past weight loss journeys), technical talk about how ghreline and leptin work and can override will power and how to avoid and deal with that scenario, etc

The pros know how to focus and train you for genuine lifestyle change as well as the turbulence between changes, not just weight loss

  • Destroy abstractions

The reality is, if you have an abstraction layer and one implementation of it, you dont need that abstraction layer

People will complain, “oh but think about the refactor if we have to change vendors/etc” but i have yet to ever switch vendors/api/etc and not had to completely rethink the abstraction layer

Just get rid of it, it will be easier, less code, more precise, and in the long run you’ll cargo cult less

Just write the code for the things you have, and if things change, yup then things will change - to anticipate future changes and upfront the work for the unknown only to then have to make more changes once those real changes eventually arrive and dont match your old predictions is just more work and more confusion

  • I think java has enough momentum that it will join in the perpetual pantheon of languages with FORTRAN and C - however with that said, learning Go changed how I write Java for the better, I was able to do this within my java job after convincing the team that a small but neccisarry but not critical side project could be done in Go to test it out - I had a blast learning and writing it, even though ultimately the dynamics of my company kept us in Java

  • People should know and have evidence on hand that policy and budget decisions directly effect lives.

This is another lesson available, we are individuals that are part of communities which can learn from this lesson vicariously.

This community had a conversation that ended with a vote, where people chose not to pay more taxes and to not figure out the minutia of how to run the system effectively - nor did they receive a grant from above levels of government - nor did they determine a local low cost solution - and because of that people were swept away in a flash flood they had no clue was coming like countless times in history and prehistory.

There will always be a balance between safety and budget, just as with all other qualities, and its a constant difficulty always filled with consequences wherever the decisions made land.

But some consequences are easier to bare than others.

The next time this community thinks about floods and what to do about them they’re perspective will likely shift with the weight of the dead bodies left in the debris field, and it should be hoped that other communities who know this news understand that too.

The effort and cost of government is for our collective benefit, because the world is rough, and by working and sacrificing together we can make it easier if we choose to.

This article adds to the story and make you think about the decisions you and your community are making.

  • Fuck the commodification of culture.

    Fuck full time content creators.

I don’t want people working full time on social networks. I don’t want to read your ad, your secret knowledge, your product placement, or sponsorship, or your oh so subtle pitch for VC funding. I’m certainly not going to give money.

I want people who do their own thing in the real world, and as a hobby and show-and-tell, submit their work freely to the Internet to hone and expand their craft and field, and gain organic enrichment altruisticly.

If you want to sell stuff and make money, make your own website and store. Not on our forum.

Don’t pollute our forum. I want to be inspired, be in awe, be entertained, be informed, and to give back in my own way that continues this cycle and fuels the forum.

We’ve fled so many greedy sites - fleeing this capitalistic parasite in hopes of finding honest discussion untainted by greed. I’m tired of fleeing.
