All my German co-workers and anyone living near the border are with T-Mobile, Fraenk or Congstar because they include roaming in Switzerland. Apparently o2 and vodafone are just greedy because they can. All french and italian providers include Swiss roaming too.
My Swiss cellphone plan has been offering free calls and texts to all EU countries as well as UK,NO,US,CA,AU,NZ,JP,China for years. Is that such a rarity? I haven‘t paid anything for calls and texting in years, not even when roaming.
I don’t have a super expensive Plan either, it’s just 40 CHF/ month with unlimited domestic data and 50GB roaming per month in all the above countries.

I installed an 24 kWp solar system on my residence this summer. Before I decided on a company I called in offers from 6 companies with the explicit wish that no Chinese or American compnents are used. Only one company took that wish seriously and actually made me an offer using only European made hardware, they were 16% more expensive than the cheapest offer but ultimately got my business. I specifically want to be able to have power in a crisis which is why I also got a large battery installed, all of that would be no good if some malicious state actor could just disable my system.
My inverter is actually from Fronius and the company had issues getting it online at first because the setup was relying on Microsoft Azure which is blocked on my network. We got it working by installing the initial firmware update locally though. Afterwards we disabled all remote control features and I firewalled everything so it can’t connect to the internet. The installer company will contact me if there are any important firmware updates but otherwise my system will stay offline.

If you have a remotely accessible Home Assistant Server on your LAN it can send the commands for you on the LAN while you access it remotely.

Have you seen how easy it is to get a license in the US? 16 year olds basically do a couple rounds on the school parking lot with an instructor and they hand you a license.
The US has been charging foreigners more for national parks and all kinds of shit for decades. Even rental car agencies charge a premium if you don’t have a us drivers license.
I‘m a realist in that regard, once I am gone all my hard work will go to shit in 6-12 months no matter how much I train an instruct my friends and family. They just don’t care enough to put in even a little bit of work.

Do you have free calls back to Switzerland and other countries when roaming in Germany (or any of the other countries I listed)? I am in Germany almost every second day and need to make calls to the US pretty much daily.
With my usage pattern this is definitely the cheapest plan, I did a lot of research.
Spusu is absolutely a great value if you mostly need your phone for data when abroad though, but in my case calls are still a big deal.
