  • BMW and Mercedes both supported Nazi’s during the holocaust and I believe they should receive the same treatment but it’s been the better part of a century and they’re still here

If people knew what the Nazis were planning to do back then, they might have boycotted BMW and Mercedes too, strangling them in the crib. Americans know what Nazis are; they were literally our biggest enemy and our greatest military victory, and the vast majority of Americans oppose Nazis. I think the only hesitation seems to be that people either don’t believe Elon actually is a Nazi, or that they think he’s just “TrOlLiNg ThE LiBs!!!11”.

Getting an equivalent car at a reduced trade-in price would cost 20k and I would do it on principle if I could afford to.

That really sucks, and I don’t think you are a Nazi… but you’re driving a BMW in 1933. You’re not going to get any sympathy from people on the right side of history.

  • This is the only positive thing in the Trump administration so far. I was worried that they were going to de-fang the FTC and DOJ’s antitrust efforts and just start handing out slaps on the wrist again, but nope. It seems they’re going ahead with the Biden-era aggressiveness, which is awesome.

Of course, they’ll never touch Musk’s companies, and it remains to be seen if Microsoft/Google/etc will be able to bribe Trump for a settlement. But at least it’s a glimmer of hope in the otherwise onslaught of depressing news.

  • I think it’d be less creepy if there was an easily accessible public dashboard displaying this telemetry. E.g. like counters showing how many people hide the bookmark bar. If you can instantly see what data your browser is sending in an easily digestible format (ie not a dump of JSON in a submenu), it’s easier to gain a quick understanding of the benefits vs minimal privacy tradeoffs.

But it really depends on trust: trust that they’re not collecting more than they claim, and trust that the data is properly anonymized. Mozilla has lost that trust.

  • Why are you assuming that it is? Maybe it’s because I’m not a religious person, but I don’t see anything morally wrong with sex work. Whether someone is doing it against their will is a separate issue, but that’s not an assumption I’d make without other evidence.

If you really are coming at this issue from a religious point of view, then there’s no point getting into a discussion here since I’m not going to change your mind on that (nor do I care to; believe what you want). Otherwise, I’m curious what your actual arguments might be.
