It’s purely anecdotal but every time I’ve used an Ubuntu based distro it has been unstable or it nuked itself after 6 months to a year of use. I’ve been on fedora for 2-3 (4?) years now and I’ve not had a single issue apart from the Nvidia drivers behaving wonky sometimes.

To let you skip the article, they are pausing sales to the USA on the base models of the framework 13, presumably because those are their lowest margin models. The two affected SKUs for the moment are the Intel 125H and Ryzen 7640U

It’s rare that I see something this false on here, damn. Nvidia does supply Linux drivers and they are 95% painless nowadays (still much worse than what is found in Mesa for Amd or Intel, but the bar is high). Intel has excellent Linux support, better than AMD in some cases (think wifi chips). Anectdonally, I have had a bit of issues with my Amd laptop, and the flaws were all related to the integrated GPU!

Zen is really good but I’ve found it likes to crash my Gnome session when it’s open at the same time as regular Firefox. It also likes to crash my Gnome session at random. Other than that I really like it, I’ll try it again soon

Every affected company should be extremely thankful that this was an accidental bug, because if crowdstrike gets hacked, it means the bad actors could basically ransom I don’t know how many millions of computers overnight

Not to mention that crowdstrike will now be a massive target from hackers trying to do exactly this

It doesn’t really matter for the average use though, most probably won’t really notice the app opening times and most Windows users will not care about the backend being closed source, coming from an entirely closed source OS. I will tend to recommend stock Ubuntu or Mint/PopOS at most because those actually bring some things to the table while being Ubuntu based, not being Ubuntu but with a different DE
