Cool, thanks. TRMNL looks good, with the only thing I dislike is that the ready made kits ship from the US (I’m in the EU). I see that there are EU resellers stocking DIY kits, so I might have a go at those.

I don’t really like the idea - I don’t have an old one to use for that, but even if I had, I wouldn’t leave it plugged in 24/7 with an aging battery inside of it. I’m looking for something that’s either meant to be plugged in constantly or something that can last a few weeks on a single charge.

Can anyone recommend a similar type of device that’s not ad-supported? I don’t care about voice, but would like to have a desk clock with a synced calendar.

I’m also in the market for one. Can’t give you a recommendation from experience, but from what I read some smart TVs can be booted up and operated in “dumb” mode, which I think would be a good compromise - you might wanna look into that, because dedicated dumb TVs seem to be next to non-existent.

If they give you a “no ads for me at all, thanks” option, it’d be fine, but I highly doubt that this would happen.

Wow, that’s cursed.

It’s somewhat amazing to be able to pull this off - and also speaks of the layers and layers of management in modern corporations.
Did the c-level folks find out eventually?
Imagine breaking someone’s scraper with that change.

And maybe some features as a side effect.

I used to struggle a bit with that. My first full time job was at a startup making puzzle/logic games and I was hoping that at one point everybody is going to play them and I’ll be able to say “yeah, I worked on that”. Needless to say it wasn’t that successful at all, but I learned not to care that much. Money’s in my bank account, food is on the table, everything’s fine.
On the flip side, software not being material is also a plus - you make it once and distribute it an infinite number of times.

“My dad does a programmer.”
Because they want to include things with ads now - i.e. the ad-supported Outlook in the place of Mail.
It’s nice that it’s optional (as opposed to someone else making decisions for you). Some people will appreciate the extra display smoothness while others will be fine with 60 Hz and the extra battery life.

I obviously don’t know your situation, but using your own phone for work is a bit of a red flag. If you’re required to use a phone for work, ideally the job should provide you one that meets their requirements.

Some shells put the path in quotes automatically as you attempt to complete anything with spaces in it.
Just put the whole thing in quotes. You might have to escape extra sets of quotes, usually with a backslash.
git blame is a bitch
For a very long time it’s been possible to set what the button is doing and it’d only cause a hard shut down if you hold it down for like 5 seconds.
