Occasionally I block users that are extremely bad for one reason or another. Honestly though, I have to block far more communities than users, and it’s mostly because of foreign languages. I have nothing against these communities, but if I can’t read any of their posts, they’re just noise. I’ve tried tinkering around with language settings, but for whatever reason I still seem to see at least one new one a week, and so I block it to clean up my feed. It just seems like something that should be easy, I’m a dumb American who only wants to see English communities, how hard is it to filter by language, or is this just a problem with my mobile client (Voyager)?

I grew up in a home where we just never thought about wearing, or not wearing, shoes in the house. Like, we obviously didn’t track mud all over the place if our shoes were that dirty, but if we were wearing our shoes inside, nobody said anything or cared, it was just whatever. Married a Kenyan who put her foot down and was like, “Are you crazy?” It’s apparently a big thing elsewhere in the world. In Kenya alot of roads aren’t paved, things get dusty, and it’s just common sense that you don’t walk all over the house with dirty shoes, so I get it from that perspective.

And almost 50% of that is from drug offenses (according to a few stats I saw).

I actually do agree with some of your points though, but on that point, I’ve rarely seen a woman reluctant to talk trash about another woman when given a chance (maybe more in he said/she said situations is what you’re referring to).

Did they know how painful the shock was beforehand? If they were just told, “This button will give you a shock, we’ll leave you alone for 15 minutes,” I’m guessing alot of it may have just been to test it out. Most guys were probably like, “It’s probably not that bad, I can handle it.” Without knowing anything specific about this study (though I feel like I’ve heard about something similar before), I’d argue that this may have just been more a case of people testing the limits of the study/themselves, plain curiosity, and not people just shocking themselves repeatedly because the thought of being bored for 15 minutes was so completely unacceptable. Though if it’s the same thing I heard about, I think at least one person did do this, but that’s more likely an outlier and somebody who may have actually gotten something out of it.

I’m not sure what it says about Men vs Women though, maybe how well they heed warnings from “authoritative figures” (ie the people running the study).

Can we all just boycott anything having to do with Musk/Twitter? I just want a browser extension that will automatically prevent me from going to a site that has any sort of links or anything related to twitter. Your blog also links to your Twitter account? Fuck you, I’m not reading it. Your news story references a tweet from somebody? Fuck you I’m not reading it. Your Lemmy post talks about Musk or Twitter? Fuck you, I’m not reading it. I just want all mention of Musk or Twitter or X completely erased from the internet. It may unfortunately impact any reference to anything else ‘X’ related, but that’s a small price to pay for a Musk-free life.

Why not have two holidays? ‘Labor day’ like we do now on the first Monday in September AND ‘Labour day’ on May 1 like the rest of the world. Workers deserve at least two holidays dedicated to them.
