The point is to get laws passed in the US that create a moat for them as businesses. They don’t care about competing with China, they care about competing with the next YC cohort.

As an American, I hope they do. Right now foreign arms sales subsidizes and keeps viable a lot of our defense industry. Here’s hoping a lot of them will collapse, and we can stop being the world’s arms dealer.

It’s exactly what it says, but people living under any superpower’s sphere of cultural influence (Western, Eastern, or otherwise) are clearly prone to see their government’s actions as good and non-authoritarian.
