Euronews Health takes a closer look at declining fertility rates across Europe. Experts point to multifaceted reasons behind the decline, and Europe is not alone in facing this trend.
More and more people realize they don’t need kids to live a happy life and if they do, one is enough.
What’s the point of having kids in a future full of automation, drones, probably eles freedom and more war?
Who rises the kids who make a change?
Amazing how low it is in traditionally Christian countries such as Poland and Spain.
And (comparatively) how high it is in secular France.France is 50% Christian, and a place with lots of migrants from foreign colonies.
Edit: misinformation from here on. I’m sorry.
Migrants tend to get more children, if I recall correctly, even so for multiple generations.
~~Poland on the other hand, has had a steady stream of outward migration by people in the working age migrate to other European countries after it joined the EU 20 years ago. That, and their economy has been doing very well since.
Not sure if those are the reasons, but Poland/France doesn’t surprize me very much. I can’t currently think of reasons for Spain doing relatively well in this statistic.~~
Migrants don’t tend to have more kids. Biggest marker of individuals for having less kids is having higher education and migrants tend to experience sub-paar education due to institutional racism.
I know you’re not saying migrants are kids trebuchets and I know this comment was not meant to be racist, but just wanted to clarify here.
Thank you. Edited.
And thank you for communicating like a normal human being about my mistake. Lemmy is a refreshing platform in this regard.
No Problem. Let’s make the internet wholesome again. We’re all humans ✌️
I like to blame dating sites’ pay-to-play business model incentivising sabotaging good matches to keep the users paying forever. That business model should be banned.
