That’s why you don’t buy locked down shit like this. The good news is that we now have steamOS, and it’s no longer really necessary

It would be really nice if at some point PS5s could get a second life as cheap Steam Machines or even desktop PCs. I surely wouldn’t buy one now, but in a few years as a cheap second hand purchase it would be nice to have Linux running on them properly. So it is quite sad to see someone skilled with making that happen leave like this.

Yeah, I’m tired of paying money for devices a corporation controls to make it work in their best interest instead of mine, even if there is a small hope of hacking my way into root access that I should’ve had in the first place since it’s legally MY device I bought and paid for. At this point, a Linux gaming PC can play most games, and any console exclusives will be available to emulate at some point, but even if they weren’t, I’m not giving any more money to assholes like Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft.

No. But, you can run any store on them. Even access kde

Xbox and ps5 you’re limited exclusively to their stores

Also, steam have done a lot to help all Linux gamers

Bazzite is excellent, especially with all the hidden away developer tools under the hood, like distrobox. I have been using it as my daily driver for about two years after jumping from Fedora. Very impressed.

The default touch controls are also pretty good, at least on my Thinkpad. I’ve used lots of distros but Bazzite might be my favorite.

At least Valve leaves you root access when you buy their hardware. I don’t like Steam and normally use Lutris instead, which is certainly an option on Valve hardware as well.
