I put poly on it, then sanded it off, then procrastinated for a couple months, but today I decided it’s going to be done.
So I put a quick coat of 50/50 beeswax and mineral oil and called it a day

What a saga.
I had to give y’all closure
What if we want a sequel?
Nice dildo

SCNR
But for real, nice work.Looks great. I like oil finishes. They give wood a warm glow. Nicely done.
I really wanted a semi-gloss finish, but finished is better than ruminating ad infinitum
Yay! Got it done before your kid decided they don’t care about rockets anymore, I hope? 🚀
If so it’s still cool to have for when they start thinking about doing some woodworking of their own
He actually just mastered the phrase, “three, two, one, blastoff”. (By mastered i mean it’s barely intelligible)
He was very excited to have it, I just need to diligently remind him to not bang it on stuff, I don’t know how strong the leg joints are
When every leg has been reglued three times and the nose is dented and chipped, that’s when it will have been Loved so much it will become Real.
If your kids are like mine prepare to find it embedded in the dirt under the porch or something similar. Oh well.

It’s a thing of beauty. In a similar boat with a rocket obsessed toddler I’m fighting every urge to try something like this. The unfinished entertainment center in the garage still haunts me.
All those angles and curves on joins scare me, but looks great.
You have no idea.
Perfectly matching a surface that curves on two axes is hell
When you build the V2 (no pun intended) maybe make the fins squared off near the body and chisel in a squared off slot so its all flat to flat and no contour matching
Reminds me of setting a mandolin neck.
I appreciate your patience lol
I super appreciate the craftsmanship and I have seen pretty much every post as it came out I think, so don’t take this the wrong way, but do you ever look at this (or other long projects) and be like “wow and I don’t even really like it anymore?”
Not really, i end up viewing almost every project as a rough draft by the end, because of how much I learn and could do better/faster/cheaper/easier if I were to do it again
