2·19 hours agoI think the AUR isn’t possible to keep using as-is so hopefully they come up with some sort of vetting process. Invite system like a private torrent tracker? Idk really.
I try not to use AUR. A few exceptions being the actual program developer maintaining the AUR repo and recommending that method for Arch users on their github page or whatever.

One I really dislike is that CachyOS when you install their gaming software bundle…it uses the AUR version of Heroic Games Launcher instead of their own repo and CachyOS does not maintain the Heroic AUR AFAIK. I guess because AUR updates more frequently than their own repo? I think it’s bad practice.

5·10 days agoSince other people are posting haggis, then the fucking BANGER haggis pizza I had when I visited the U.K. More of a Scottish thing though, no?
More strictly then I suppose Fish’n Chips or a Cottage Pie. I has those too over there. Can’t say it’s noticeably different from the local Atlantic Canada themed joints all around me in a landlocked province 😅.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I am extremely fatigued with the constant negativityEnglish
101·12 days agoFigure out why you feel compelled to constantly look first because there’s a variety of reasons why we can be stuck in a rut. Mine was indoctrinated into me. 1990’s school and family taught me to feel shame for not keeping up with current events. My dad seemed to think it was his duty to watch cable news.
Your reason(s) could be different. I had to learn that disconnecting isn’t shameful and isn’t actually harmful. I’m a peasant with very minority progressive points of view in Alberta. I can’t really affect very much at all with knowledge not even through voting under a FPTP system. Nothing peaceful anyways and anything else is taboo still since things haven’t declined far enough yet. If my mood is particularly sour, I can disconnect entirely up until I have to make a potentially important decision. Then, I already know where to go looking to get caught up on relevant information immediately. You would too, I’m sure you’re well practiced.
I replaced corporate algorithms and content aggregators with RSS feeds for news. I replaced short form video content with nothing since I don’t think there’s a healthy form of it. I lost word of mouth information especially when it comes to entertainment and local activist information. That’s replaced with email newsletters. Took a lot of time to set up but I feel locally connected in a healthier way now.
I word filter Fediverse. Not always, just when I feel burn out. I can with this instance or I could use an app for Lemmy based instances lacking the feature. I have a separate browser extension called FilterBubble for platform agnostic filtering. Again, I toggle my lists on and off depending on my mood. I don’t sub to too many meme or news communities here, peace of mind. My RSS feeds are higher quality and match my tastes. I really don’t need to see anything posted by media owned by American billionaires or Post Media. Stuff like that.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Did you work as a teenager, if so what was your job?English
2·12 days agoPaper route at 10 years old until I was 14 or so. I bought a PS2 and my first computer with that money.
Then I worked part time at a pizza joint until I was 19, just as a cook. I sometimes did opening shifts on weekends but not often. By Grade 11 / 17 years old I only attended high school until lunch break for my last two years there (I exploited a few specific classes, had 52 out of 100 credits in my first year alone) and then started work by noon and working until 7pm. A lot of my friends worked there too so they’d do 4pm - 7pm after school, just the supper rush.

These are also available on KDE when you click the get more button or whatever it’s called (I’m not at home) in System Settings.
A preview of a few but open the website, they’re animated. Plus there’s multiple styles and dark modes.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Any ideas on how to find people for long-term friendships online in 2026?English
102·21 days agoDo you actually want to? My ability to maintain online friends or even a desire to bother faded with age.
I hate to say Discord but…Discord. If I wanted to make online friends I’d jump in a local over 30’s channel in my own city, or a wider net via a co-op game group seeking channel. Emulation communities were my past haunts. Use your imagination from there I’m sure there’s someone catering to your specific online hobbies out there.
I still occasionally talk to the small community chat members on https://goontu.be/ which is run by some SomethingAwful forum members. People submit videos and it’s a watch party. It could turn into something more, I see the opportunities, I just don’t want to anymore but my point is you could.
Tldr: seek out small tribes. Too much noise on corpa social media. Too big.
I think this head cold is wrapping up after 9 fucking days. Just in time to go back to work, hooray.
I’ve got a family reunion coming up and my mother decided to host this time. Probably…no, for sure it’ll be the last time her siblings will all be alive for one since she’s the youngest of 8. I’m secretly feeling out of place and pointless in my participation. Everyone in my extended family lives nowhere near us and I haven’t maintained contact at all. Nobody cared to after I deleted Facebook in 2013. I’m feeling rather conflicted but will still show up because I don’t want to make my mother sad.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anybody else feel like everything is off lately? What have you noticed is different?English
1·28 days agoSure I see it the same way as you but that’s just local to us in our own time. Looking at global history outside of the sanitized lie by omission lessons taught by the school system reveals we’ve always been pretty monstrous throughout all of written history. The only thing that I can’t figure out is how things are ever allowed the breathing room to temporarily improve in the first place.

I was thinking about:
Server costs, vast increase of bad actors and bots, legal scrutiny, international government narrative manipulation. Overall quality drop from LCD majority who aren’t typically early adopters of any new social platform. Stuff like that.
This is your first comment on your new account and you chose to be an asshole. Congratulations.
