bagel and cream cheese, with coffee.

Ah, that makes sense! We all need support sometimes, including our buttholes.

Is there something about the toilet seat that increases the risk, even if you’re just sitting? Like if someone had a sleep disorder and fell asleep on there regularly, would that increase the risk?
Internet search says sitting for long periods is a known cause, but I suppose I was assuming it was because of what you were doing while you were there. That’s interesting. Are people who sit for pissing as well more likely to get them? Gosh, there are so many things to learn in this life.
i can’t see it there since i don’t have a fedia.io account. if the mod was falseprophet i see from other sites they were banned 10 days ago from a bunch of communities. the reason is just “automod,” but i don’t know what that means. I still see them posting on bside 8 hours ago on my own instance.

The problem is that moderators here and on reddit (i believe?) are volunteers, so they are going to have personal limits on what they’ll accept. And if they can’t have those, they won’t do it. Someone else will have to volunteer for an unpaid position that can take up lots of their precious time on this earth.
Start a mod fund and pay people, is my suggestion. The only rewards at the moment for moderating are, like, a smoothly running community. Tiny, mostly irrelevant power. Being a big fish in a small pond. Personal satisfaction? You can get that being treasurer at your local beading club, but there you get to mess around with beads. I dunno.
As for making different platforms, there also has to be someone willing to do that work. Mostly thankless, and you’ll always get it wrong somehow. I’m amazed anyone bothers.

It’s valuable for .ml to have duplicates since certain instances and numerous individuals are defederated from them. There are also people who are trying to diversify the fediverse by moving communities off .world. Big, opinionated communities like the different news communities are going to spawn new versions as people disagree with mod decisions or the background culture and feel they can’t have the conversations they want.
Some splitting is inevitable, imo, and healthy, though whether it’s good in this or that particular case is a useful conversation to have. Merging communities is also useful, but only when it makes sense (one is barely moderated or barely used, or people have defederated from an instance one is on because of spam, etc.)
I think it’s a case by case basis type situation.
i know most of ao3’s budget goes to server costs. they get by with volunteer labor and donations, but they mostly host text. i genuinely have no idea what a sustainable model would look like for the fediverse, that doesn’t just treat volunteers like disposable rags we toss when they get inevitable burnout.

mbin has an “abandoned” tab when you search communities. does lemmy have something like that?

I guess the question I have is whether the negative things associated with screen use are the result of that screen use, or if those negative things are what cause more screen use. Or if they’re mixed up together. Like, I’ve always been more anxious which is exacerbated by not getting out, but it also originally caused me to not go out. I used to just read, watch tv, and play at home, before internet got big. That’s anecdotal, but it makes me curious.

I don’t particularly care about the downvoting, but I do prefer bidirectional blocking when possible. Obviously a public profile is still visible, but if someone blocked had to make a new account to interact with you, that’d be nice.
That’s just a preference. Whatever the consensus is, I’ll be fine with it. The most important thing is that it’s clear and known how it works. Someone with a stalker should quickly be able to get how things work to decide if they want to be on here.

I don’t know, but here’s a conversation between guitar fans about it. The wood has to be treated carefully or it will crack, I guess.

degenerate’s a nazi term, man. that’s why people are getting the wrong idea about you.

Forumverse, I guess.
(Though I’m always in favor of silly word combos, there aren’t many good ones. I like Piebin, but how do you get lemmy in there? Plebin? No thanks.)

There’s a limit to how carefully you can word things to protect its meaning from people determined to read it in bad faith. I have it too - the desire to be long winded to preemptively protect myself from misunderstanding. But there’s a risk that we’ll turn everything we say into long blocks of soft useless mush. There’s no precision precise enough to be safe.
We have to, I think, decide to write for people willing to reach for us when we hold out a hand. There are enough willing to try that any general misunderstandings can be clarified with conversations other people can read if they want to understand. If enough of us are willing to do this for each other, it might be possible to build spaces where people who slap that outheld hand away don’t have to dictate conversation. And maybe we can both be less wordy.

Feels like they’re still figuring out how they want to do this, themselves. Every now and then i’ve been visiting the art themed pixelfed to follow people with mbin, and the explore page is sometimes there and sometimes not.

just read it as ‘flow market,’ realized it was german, and looked up the word. it doesn’t look weird at first glance.
I know from the sawbones podcast that piss was frequently used in medicine in the past, but I can’t shake the thought that one time someone was like “Finally, that dickwad is dead,” and pissed on him in celebration. But that guy wasn’t really dead and recovered and our hero had to be like “i saved his life on purpose! my, uh, grandfather told me this secret method to save a drowning man” and from this, history.
