A doctor cannot be in several places at once. That’s where your analogy falls apart.

I’d say it holds up even more. All sick people go to hospitals and that’s where we employs doctors. EFF’s target audience[1] are using Twitch so they go there.

1: I assume, since why would they use Twitch otherwise?

Yes, once again, that’s why this analogy does not make sense. The EFF is not running a hospital, they’re running a livestream, which can happen in any of a dozen different places simultaneously.

You cannot advertise the fediverse to people already on the fediverse. They are already using it.

You need to advertise to people who are on things like twitch, Facebook, X etc.

This stream is not for you, thus it is twitch specific.

Can you explain to me why promoting the Feddiverse on Twitch is bad?

Promoting the Feddiverse on the Feediverse just seem like preaching to the choir.

You can reach your audience from a variety of channels. At least one of them should be free. This should be seeringly obvious to an org like EFF.

Perfect is the enemy of the good, aight?

Checking every single ethical box will leave you with an audience of 1,5 nerds. For EFF, this would be a massive failure on their mission.

EFF needs outreach, and Twitch provides it. Managing a political project is in a big way about pragmatism, and EFF maintains integrity where it matters.

Plus you can’t trust people to accurately decide which people are ethical or not. Look at Israel, their agents and allies mindfuck the left and right with abandon, and even leftists will fall for it, castigating and rejecting tens of millions of people because they are “right” pointing to groyper twat faces as charicatures of all of them, while doing the same to the left on the right, associating you alll with their charichatures.

trust me I definitely use it, however fundamentally this is taking a place that has like 3 hobbies (American politics, Linux and Left Wing Progressive/American politics) and making it even smaller, this was supposed to be an alternative to reddit but it has like 7 active comms that aren’t somehow related to the above 3, even Lemmy Shitpost is filled with American/Left Wing Politics ALL the time

You’re going to say next: be the change you seek and I am however I am a drop in the American ocean

Im pretty active in cooking/gardening/gaming. Dont post much about politics, honestly cuz Im afraid of the surveilence state… so I avoid comment mostly in that topic and lurk. Seems okay to me, I dont often fight with anyone.

It’s what you make it. Post about your hobbies, remain positive, and youll get that back; Not only here, but it works this way in life mostly too. No one cares where youre from in the comm types I mentioned. Post youre aussie garden. My favorite garden video I ever saw was a fella from Australia. His garden was gorgeous and he was cool af.

That doesn’t mean the place sucks, that only means I choose which topics/communities I spend time with. I’m not going to blame people for being angry at the system, for making their own education. I’m not expected to be part of these conversations, so I don’t go there. Some days I don’t even open the app andit’s fine

It’s pretty ok, yes. There’s no shortage of platforms, and this one pushes for community control, so its political leaning isn’t surprising, and since I like community control, I fit. You should try to find your community that aligns with you, but with software and communities that favor common working there’s little chance it will not be left leaning

It’s especially ironic when I get called a right wing American when I detest America, the level of thought here is the most primitive I’ve ever seen on an internet forum “agree with me or you are nazi”

So here I sit, Lemmy has chased away all the normal people and left people like the above who say things like “why don’t you bring all your rightwing friends” when I don’t have rightwing friends, I have friends with hobbies outside of American politics, Linux and Left Wing Progressive/American politics, and if I dare complain about the lack of interesting content here it’s because I am lazy and not doing enough :\

Instance admins are - and should be - entirely free to pick and choose who gets platformed on their own personal machines. That is their freedom and right! Though you are likewise free to pick an instance that aligns well with your own values, or even spin up one of your own (even using PieFed, or alternately Lemmy or Mbin, etc.) - that is your freedom and right!!:-)

A lot of what gets said about PieFed is overblown or even untrue… but obviously not all. I see that you are banned from the entire instance of PieFed.social… though I also see a significant amount of content from you hosted on that instance - so maybe there’s a bug and the ban didn’t take? (iirc that has happened before…) Or perhaps there’s a different bug and it expired already, but without indication of that fact? The modlog offers no reason why, just that it was done by an admin.

The Political Left is fairly divisive, but it’s that way everywhere, it’s just that there’s more of such people here than most other places. And it is highly ironic that the people who claim to most value empathy are the least likely to offer it to others on a personal level - though in fairness this has more to do with “extremism” and the tribal level of thinking that are traps often fallen into by people on both sides of any kind of political division that someone chooses to make.

I suppose your options are either to mask up, or narrow your spaces of interactions, or else simply become insensitive to others responses (I hope you don’t choose this option). The easiest route might be to avoid discussing anything even remotely political in the largest communities here. Bc while you may have been offered a “right” to speak your mind simply by making an account on some instance somewhere in the Threadiverse, other instances and also each community and individually also reserves the right to not enjoy what you have to say, and to not offer their spaces to platform your views.

Stop using lemmy, use piefed or mbin. They have better filters. I have blocked anything and everything related to us politics and it’s been pretty good. Mastodon is filled with US people and their dumb topics though. It’s good I don’t like the way mastodon presents stuff because I find it impossible to navigate and follow discussions. Threads are way better
