Apparently some big name YouTube guy cheated on his wife or something? I never heard of him before, but every site I go on keeps talking about it. Most I can say is “cheating is bad”. Is that having an opinion on it? Like I don’t really care what happens to them once everyone moves on in a few days.

I can never be bothered with the YouTube drama. Stay out of the influence the channels and it’s actually quite good.

Casein point I have loads of subscriptions to various channels on YouTube, literally hundreds of different content creators all producing different kinds of content. And I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.

If someone gets a lot of YouTube drama and says they don’t want it, that’s on them and their subscription choices.

Yeah the only time I’d care about YouTube drama is if it involves someone I like watching. Like I used to love watching Completionist, but then all the stuff about him not sending donation money meant for charity came out so I stopped watching. That’s about as far as I cared to follow the drama though. Maybe something more came out after he was called out with evidence, but I don’t care enough to go look cause I got way more than enough other people to watch.

As a non-American, the US midterms. If the Republicans win then nothing changes, if the Democrats win they’ll probably do jack shit like they always do and Trump will just ignore them anyway so it doesn’t really matter.

Us elections are bizarre because the democrats could win but trump would still be president. What’s the point in potentially changing the government structure halfway through an election cycle, why do it like that?

Just have an election and then that’s your government for the next four years. Then have another election and elect a different government or the same government.

It’s not really intentional to change the structure of government, just the result of 2 year terms vs 4 year terms vs 6 year terms. But yeah, like everything else it really builds on the current government dysfunction

Well it’s never been like this before. The election is staggered, I assume, to keep the government in check. It gives voters the chance to make corrections. But the founding fathers didn’t know that so many different portions of the government would cooperate. In short, voting in new people, should change the face of the government if that is the will of the people. As it turns out, it doesn’t. So no REAL change.

I dont know if its still going on but the Lindsey Clancy trial. I think she killed her kids and some people are using it to hate women and some are using it to hate men. I dont know why people are so invested. All I need to know was that its undisputed that she killed them and therefore she can be locked away. However the court chooses to do it jail or mental hospital doesnt matter to me.

Remember that US midterms are right around the corner. The media networks, which are owned by a handful of billionaires, do everything they can to be disruptive and divisive. Black vs white, man vs woman, gay vs straight, trans vs cis, Christian vs Muslim. Anything they can do to distract people fron rich vs poor.

So the Clancy trial gets blown up with a ton of attention. No one talks about Palestine or Iran. It even quiets some of the talk about inflation and jobs.

Remember the Casey Anthony trial? That was October 2008. Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard? That spanned several years, but arguably most of the headlines were made around August-October of 2020.

The truth is that these kinds of court cases are happening all the time. People go crazy and murder their families. It is waaaaay more common than being murdered by a random stranger. But you only hear about the ones that the Big networks WANT you to, and in a contextual narrative that that create.

There will be another trial but they haven’t set a date yet. It will likely be in the spring.

A lot of crazy people turned it into a True Crime drama, and were online spouting conspiracy theories, like that the husband did it. They deluded themselves into her nonsense and basically harassed jurors over the issue, and the jurors themselves were biased and straight up admitting it after the trial was over.

It was a complete shit show. And people love shit shows.

I don’t have much of an opionion on anything people on here on IRL go about.

And they all basically assume you are on the ‘other side’ of the issue if you say this.

I find it all confusing, but I guess if you you fill your days with agonizing over whatever political, pop culture, or internet drama stuff, well yeah anyone who doesn’t would be very offensive to you.

Even in my own hobbies I mostly avoid the nonsense dramatic opinions and in-fighting so many folks have. I don’t get the impulse of hostility towards folks who are different than you at all. And I find it weird when I talk about my interests to other folks how they get bent out of shape about how I spend my time doing that stuff rather than watching reality TV or drinking and talking shit about people. My refusal to talk shit about people has gotten me socially shitcanned in a lot of situations in my life… I guess I’m ignorant about how much people bond over being nasty to other people.

I don’t have an opinion about trans people.

    They exist. It’s fine.

I do have an opinion about people that go out of their way to make lives harder for other people though. Fuck them.

I share your opinion about trans people. I have known and had pleasant, and unpleasant interactions with trans folks… they are just people. They are not angels or demons.

However, folks tell me that means I hate them, both IRL and on here. If I’m not for the erasure of heternormativity I’m anti-trans, according to these types of folks. And I notice that most folks who think this way… are not trans themselves, they are self appointed ‘activists’ who think you are either with them, or against them. and if you don’t identify yourself with your pronouns you are against them.

There seems a vocal bunch on the internet that doesn’t seem to realize that trans people are a minority and spend too much time insulting straight people. This isn’t all trans people though.

The trans people I know irl aren’t policing language or flying off the handle if you accidentally misgender them. They just want to live as they want. A true patriot will support their countryfolk’s right to do so. ;)

I was having a fire with my buddy a couple years back, early in his transition, and accidentally misgendered him. I was just like “oh fuck sorry, do I owe you a buck?” and we both just laughed it off and had another beer.

It’s not that hard to get along with people. 🤷‍♂️

Agree. There are some things American agrees on - example: if you are white don’t use the N word.

But there are a lot of other words/norms that we don’t agree on. Or ones that used to be ok and now aren’t. Example: Sweet Sixteen was a sweet and funny movie when it came out. Now it’s full of rape jokes and racist stereotypes. Same movie - culture changed.

Some folks adapted to those changes more quickly than others. Some folks want norms to change even more. Some folks still didn’t get the memo / are annoyed that people are acting like anything is different.

I did like that movie (am female, 50s) but I also agree it’s a good thing that rape jokes have become less ok. That said - I have a lot of compassion for folks who adapt more slowly. There are jokes you could make 20 yrs ago and everyone would laugh- but the same joke today will get you fired.

I think it’s really important to be kind and patient with folks who are slow to get the memo. I want to be respectful but he/she is a very hard habit to break. I’ll give it the old college try, but if you think I am a bad person for having a hard time adapting to that then I think your expectations are wildly unrealistic.

Even positive changes take time. Be kind to each other. If someone is unkind for sure call them out! But don’t get your panties in a wad of their language or humor is a little outdated but their actions are kind.

Sounds like mayor elections in the UK. I never even heard of any of the candidates. I don’t even know who won.

They have made absolutely zero impact on my life and apparently they’ve had zero impact on everyone else’s life as well because there’s been no subsequent TV interviews, so they obviously don’t seem to be actually doing anything, positive or negative.
