You don’t have to. You can train them not to spray as long as you get them as a kit. I’ve known a few people with skunks that they raised from babies that didn’t get their scent glands removed.
Yeah I wouldn’t descent mine. I believe it would be unethical to surgically alter them to better suit humans. I want a skunk for the lovable, smelly floofball they are.

Me too. We’re having to put our little guy to sleep tonight, he’s too ill. They’re pretty sure it’s cancer, but he’s not stable enough for diagnosis let alone treatment. The poor guy’s had basically a soda can’s worth of fluid drained from his chest cavity twice in the last 2 months.

My wife is hurting worse than me. He got her through the pandemic, and they really bonded. I opened the cat flap this morning and pulled out his food before I remembered he was gone. Been a tough Saturday.

My sincerest sympathies. You can comfort yourself with the fact that you’re doing the right thing for him by ending his illness and whatever discomfort/pain there may be.
We had to do the same with our little guy last year. He had kidney problems, and we gave him a saline drip twice a day for about a year. He never complained. But at a certain point you have to consider that you’re just prolonging their suffering, as hard as that is to accept.
That’s him away now. I’m just happy he wasn’t hurting yet. With the way things were going he probably would have had massive heart failure which is hardly pleasant.

My dog Denver, who died a couple years ago. She was so awesome, my little buddy. Lived 18 great years, miss her every day.
