I’ve stopped following the live news cycle for a year now and it’s been great. Highly recommended to everyone.

Combined with not being on social media, life’s been much much better (other than being on Lemmy, and even here I have plenty of filters).

It’s not ignorance at all, Mr Sharkfucker420. There’s no need to follow the LIVE NEWS CYCLE. I read/watch summary analysis a few days down the line once a story has matured and developed. I completely exclude “some person said/tweeted…” stories, that have absolutely no value.

Leaving social media is also not leaving me ignorant at all. I read things, and listen to podcasts. I’ve got plenty of perspective on the world and current events. Just choose better sources.

Oh, I call that following the news I guess. We use a similar process I just find the knowledge of what happens in the world to be unbearable sometimes. I guess I didn’t know what you meant by live news cycle my bad

Oh. What you’re describing is what I call “following the news”. Anything more rapid than that is not news, it is just tabloids and tweets. I guess you’re right that tabloids and tweeters desperately try to apply a veneer of “news” to their blathering though.

I deleted Instagram a little bit ago and it’s been a really good change. I’m still aware of everything happening but I don’t end up doomscrolling for hours anymore.
