My ma said I couldn’t be trans because I didn’t care about *Checks Notes* grooming my eyebrows. Specifically because I didn’t want someone else doing it for me at a salon.

…does she think that no man ever gets his eyebrows trimmed? It’s pretty far from being a meaningful concern of mine, but it’s something I’ve absolutely been offered (and occasionally accepted) when getting a hair cut.

I guess it’s also possible I have the scenario reversed and she thinks no woman gets this done, but I feel like that doesn’t line up as well with the assumed stereotypes here.

Or I guess another option is she thinks every single (insert transitioned gender) must do so.

Right, I’m MtF, and figured I’d at least try to come out to my ma before I took my first DIY injection.

She thought I was kidding, then the stuff came in the mail and she thought I was hysterical, then we had a long conversation about it and now she thinks I’m confused. Think it’ll turn out fine with more time but she did tell me that every single woman trims their eyebrows and I couldn’t be trans because I hadn’t been.

The irony of the etymology for “hysterical” in this context is not lost on me.

Because you should hear it from someone: Hey son! How was your day today? You’ve been looking more confident lately - it’s great to see you becoming more comfortable with yourself. Hope you’re doing well and taking care of yourself. Love you.

Well I feel dumb. I read it as the mother being supportive to her daughter then saw the description and realized it was a mother being unsupportive of her son.

There’s a pretty simple and straightforward way to make them feel and look really stupid for doing this, although it takes time and dedication: hit the gym and get fucking JACKED. Then, whenever they call you by your female dead name in public, everyone will think they’re stupid.

Well look at it like this, we’re both undeniably and effortlessly masculine! Think of that next time someone calls you a feminine insult.

“You were supposed to breast boobily to the stairs and tit downward!”

They say, as he pecs pectorily to the stairs and pecs downward.
